Chapter 041
HANNAH
"I'll take you here," Asher murmured against my neck. "And then when I'm done, we'll go to the bed or maybe the floor. Wouldn't want you dirtying up my sheets."
The next instant, we both stiffened at the sound of the door being flung open.
"What the hell!" Asher cursed, hastily zipping up his pants with one hand.
Julia stood at the door. She took in the scene with a sweeping glance. Her eyes lingered on Asher's arm which still around me and she frowned. I had never thought I would be happy to see Julia, but at that moment, I was. She had come to my rescue even if she didn't know it yet.
"What the hell is going on here, Asher?" she shrieked. “I thought you said she’s nothing but a disgusting pig!”
Asher moved away, finally giving me the space and opportunity to pick up the laundry basket and hurry out of the room. As I ran down the corridor, I heard their raised voices. It was all I could do to hold on to the basket. Tears obscured my vision. I found myself bumping into things on my way to the laundry room. I was still trembling like a leaf from the shock of it all. Again, I had been spared.
'But you're in more danger than before,' my wolf warned. 'Twice you have been lucky. You may not be so lucky the third time. Sooner or later, he is going to rape you.'

From the depths of sleep, I heard, or thought I heard the sound of a door open. I opened my eyes. The night lamp bathed the room in a warm, soft glow. It was not very bright, but it provided enough light for me to see that the door to my room was opening.
Fear had me paralyzed. All I could think of was that Asher had come to finish off what he had started this afternoon. Maybe this was the night that my wolf warned me of.
But I couldn't lie here helpless like a lamb up for sacrifice. I tried to sit up. Before I could, a huge figure darted into the room. A strong, callused hand was clamped over my mouth, cutting off any sound I wanted to make, as well as half my circulation.
"Shut up or I'll snap your fucking neck."
From the texture of the hand over my face, I already knew it wasn't Asher but the rough voice confirmed it. I blinked and focused on the face above me. The intruder was a man, one of the biggest I had ever seen. His features looked like they were carved in stone. His eyes glinted evilly as they stared down at me. I knew instinctively that he would carry out his threat without hesitation if I even attempted to make a sound. His face I didn't recognize. I was sure I hadn't seen him before.
What did he want with me? Fear griped me and I lay there, staring up into his cold eyes.
Before I could force my brain into trying to figure out what the man wanted with me, a second figure, Julia's walked into the room with a smirk on her face.
"Got you where I want you, slut," she hissed.
She slowly and deliberately shut the door behind her. My stomach dropped like an elevator with the cables cut and I knew I was in trouble. Big trouble.
"I saw your little game with Asher today," Julia said. "It was a mistake letting you live here. I told Asher that but he won't listen to me. I wonder what he sees in you, a pathetic nobody. You're not even pretty." She tossed her long, blonde hair over her shoulder and patted it down. "Well, it doesn't matter now. I'm going to get rid of you once and for all. I will never let you take Asher from me." If I could talk, I would have told her I would have gladly let her have him, all of him. "Hold her down."
The man's free hand grabbed both of mine and held them over my head. I didn’t feel like any part of my body could move against his weight. Out of the pocket of the jacket she wore, Julia brought out a small stoppered bottle, opened it. I got a whiff.
It was wolfsbane. Julia was going to poison me!
I began to struggle but it was no use since I was outnumbered. Julia pinched my nostrils shut. After a few seconds, my lungs burned for air. As I opened mouth to take in a breath, the man took his hand off my mouth and Julia poured the liquid into it. I was held down until I swallowed everything by reflex. When they were sure I had drunk the poison, Julia and her accomplice left me to die.
