Chapter 065

HANNAH

The pile of books on the desk between the instructor and I made it rather difficult to see him properly as he was below average height.

He soon removed some of the books, placed them into smaller piles. He was slight in build with big, droopy eyes. I could imagine him locking himself up in a library so he could pore over tons of books to his heart's content. I shifted a little in my seat. He pushed a couple of books- hardbacks- towards me.

"Hello Hannah," he said. "I'm Alistair, your instructor."

"Yes, Cade told me."

He saw me looking at the books. "I understand you have begun undergoing some training already. I will be the one training your mind, not your body this time."

I looked up sharply. I had thought the books were either unrelated with my training or had something to do with the theoretical aspects of learning how to fight.

"How will that help me?" I asked him. "I don't think I need that sort of training. What I want... what I need is to become stronger so I can protect myself. No offense but at school I get tons of books to read already. I don't need anymore."

Alistair, leaning back in his chair, chuckled for a bit. "I completely understand your point of view but what you must understand is that this part of your training is more important than anything. I'm sure the Alpha must have mentioned it."

"He did," I replied grudgingly. "But why do you all think it's so important?"

He thought for a moment. "I'll explain like this. It's common to feel wronged and angry after a near death experience like yours. You want revenge. You want nothing more than to hurt the people who tried to hurt you. As each day passes, the fury increases." He stopping. Those big eyes seemed almost hypnotic as they looked at me now. "Are you familiar with that sort of anger, Hannah?"

I didn't answer. I was remembering how furious I was when I saw Asher and Julia. I could barely sleep at night because my head was full of thoughts on how I could destroy them. Whenever I thought of them being alive, happy, breathing the same air as I did, I felt like blowing up. Even now thinking of it made me mad. My fingers began to squeeze the edges of the book in front of me.

"Are you?" Alistair asked again.

Slowly, I nodded. He smiled.

"And that is why you need this form of training. Your anger must be controlled. You must learn to channel into other things, better things. If you don't, in your quest for revenge you will destroy people and eventually yourself."

HANNAH

"This is as far as I go," said Chase who had escorted Willa and I to our first class.

"Thanks," I said. "Hurry or you'll be late for your own class."

"Right. See you two later."

Chase walked away, stopped once to wave before disappearing out of sight. Willa was searching for something in the pages of her book as we entered the classroom. The first person I saw was Julia. I supposed on some level I had been looking out for her. Today she wasn't surrounded by her chatty, bubble gum chewing friends. She was dressed oddly; no matching outfits today. She wore a baggy, dark coloured hoodie to hide her hair and the burns on her skin. Her skin, what I could see of it, still had that burned flakey look but that was not what caught and held my attention. What did was the way she was staring at me. If looks could kill, I would certainly have been pushing daisies. The concentrated hatred in Julia's stare sent a chill down my spine. The hands on her desk twitched as though she long to wrap them around me.

"Excuse me," said someone who had just bumped into me.

I realized I had been blocking the doorway. Ignoring Julia, I went to take a seat beside Willa at the front of the class. The professor was hunched over a a large textbook as the class took their seats. In about a minute, he straightened.

"All right. Settle down. Settle down," she said. "Stop talking and pay attention. Pens and notebooks out, please. Good. You'll hand in your homework at the class. Today, we are going to discuss a very important topic..."

The professor droned on and on. Even though I tried to keep my eyes focused on her, I found my attention drifting. A cool breeze from the open window played around my face. It relaxed me. The professor's voice seemed to come from far away. My chin dropped onto my chest slowly and my eyes drifted closed.
