Chapter 323
WILLA
The class hadn't started yet.
"Turns out you weren't late after all," Lucian said, pulling me closer and wrapping one arm around my waist so I couldn't wriggle away. Not that I even wanted to. "Good luck on your test. I know you'll ace it."
He tilted my chin up and kissed me so thoroughly I felt my toes curl. It was one of those kisses that were short yet seemed to go on forever.
When he released me, I was breathless and panting, wanting more. I grinned at him.
I barely saw the latecomers, like me who were openly gawking at us.
Goodness! How I loved him!
*************
I left the class a couple of hours later in more or less a good mood. The test had been a tough one but still not so tough I couldn't confidently answer about eighty percent of the questions.
In my head, I was puzzling over if I had gotten the answer to the very last question correctly when I heard my name.
I turned. It was Sienna, hurrying to catch up with me and waving to me to slow down.
"Hey, Willa," she said after asking me about the test. "are you going to the party tonight?"
I racked my brains but couldn't come up with any information about a party.
"What party?" I asked Sienna.
She stared at me, then shook her head. "Seriously, Willa. Most of the time you know nothing about what's going on in school. Sometimes it's as if you've been living under a rock."
I grinned at her.
"I have you to tell me everything at least," I said.
Sienna rolled her eyes and gave me her what-am-I-going-to-do-with-you look.
"It's the party," she said. "Biggest party of the year. At least for now," she added after a pause. "Everyone in Worchmount is talking about it."
"Then how come I haven't heard about it? Maybe they're not talking so much."
"They've been talking," she said. "You just haven't been listening. You should come. It's going to be cool." Sienna's face lit up. "Think about it. Your very first party in Worchmount as a fresher. You'll get to meet lots of cool people too. I have the perfect outfit picked out." He nudged me with her shoulder. "What do you say? You coming?"
Before I could answer, I spotted Theron walking up to us. He was in a foul mood. From the look on his face, I could tell.
Even Sienna could.
She whispered, "What's up with him?" just before got to us.
"A long story," I whispered back.
Theron didn't say a word to Sienna. Didn't even look at her.
To me he said, "We need to talk. Now."
I hesitated. I didn't think I wanted to talk to Theron now, at least not until he had gotten a chance to cool down first.
"I have a lab session in a few minutes," I told him. "I can't be late."
"It will only take a minute," he said. Still I hesitated. "Please..."
Sienna broke in. "Umm- I guess I'll see you later, Willa."
I nodded. Theron took my elbow and steered me down the corridor to a spot where we were less likely to be interrupted.
He looked searchingly at me and asked, "What was all that you said over the phone? You didn't mean it, did you?"
"I've said all I want to say on the subject," I said shortly. "Look Theron, can we just drop this?"
"No. How did this thing with you and Lucian just happen out of the blue?"
"That's not true and you know it. It's been building for a while now. Wasn't it the purpose of our agreement in the first place? For Lucian to find me desirable enough to admit he wants to be with me?"
Theron, muttering something under his breath, shoved his fingers through his hair.
"Yes..." he hissed. "But stop for a moment and think about it. It all feels too rushed. One moment you can't stand to be in the same room with him. The next you let him..." Theron's throat worked as he forced out the words. "...mark you. Do you trust that guy?"
"I trust him," I said. "Being with Lucian is my decision to make and I have made it."
"But-"
"I understand that you care for me. That you are just looking out for me. I'm grateful for that but whatever you say can't change my mind." I forced a smile. "Like you wanted, Sylvia is dying to get back with you. I've got Lucian. Our deal's over now."
"I see," Theron said, his lips tightening. "So are you ending our agreement or our friendship?"
I opened my mouth to answer, then I looked over Theron's shoulder and saw Lucian coming.
