Chapter 014

ASHER'S POV

I couldn't help but feel a surge of anger wash over me as I sat in the reception area, waiting for the principal. My nose was still bleeding from the fight with Jace, and I could feel the warmth of the blood as it trickled down my face. I wiped the bottom of my nose with a handkerchief, and in no time, it was soaked red.

I glared at Jace, my eyes burning with anger and humiliation. How could he have done this to me, the son of the Alpha? I was supposed to be the strongest and the most feared. But ever since these brothers showed up, all I received were bruises and a battered ego.

“Jace, are you hurt?” I heard Hannah ask and nearly choked with anger. She touched his face, trying to see if he was bruised. Such a fucking nice attempt to enrage me the more.

I wanted revenge. Immediately. But I knew I had to keep my cool. I couldn't let Jace see how much he had gotten to me.

But Hannah was watching me with amusement and fear, her eyes darting back and forth between me and Jace. How could she be the reason for all this? Just a few days ago, she was cleaning the pig pen. The pig pen!

And now, she had somehow been promoted to a level I really didn’t want to imagine.

She seemed to be thinking about something as she avoided my gaze. Perhaps, how to turn the triplets even more against me. I wondered what they saw in her and why she was so important to them.

I turned to Jace again, the asshole who put us in this situation. I despised him, probably more than Julia’s stupid friends. He seemed unbothered, his expression still smug and self-satisfied.

He didn't even have the decency to look ashamed or apologetic despite the fact that he had just attacked the son of an Alpha. I knew I had to make it right to prove myself worthy. And that meant making Jace pay. I leaned forward, my eyes locked on his, and whispered, ''This isn't over, Jace. Not by a long shot.''

He chuckled. “And I will beat you again and again till you learn your lesson, golden boy.”

“You better watch your mouth.”

“Or what?”

I swallowed. “You’re going—”

“Enough!” Hannah yelled. “We’re about to get punished already.” Since when could she have an opinion?

My anger and humiliation simmered just below the surface as my gaze fell on Hannah again. Her very presence reminded me of my defeat. A nobody, and lowly omega caused me the biggest embarrassment ever.

I did admit that she looked good recently, and I could feel my possessive instincts raging like a storm, urging me to reclaim what was mine. No! I would not sit back and watch them flaunt her around like she was some trophy.

Despite everything, she was my mate first. Whether I wanted her or not, I had the right to make her do anything I wanted.

“Jace, you’re bleeding again,” Julia whispered. “I think we should get you to the clinic.”

“There’s no need.” I ground out. “It’s just a nosebleed.”

She sat a little away from me, her arms crossed and a scowl etched on her face. I knew that look all too well - it was the same one she wore when she was angry or upset. And I knew I was the cause of it. But I didn't have time to worry about Julia's anger right now. I had a bigger problem on my hands - Jace.

“You shouldn’t have attacked him,” Julia spat almost as I tried to distract myself from my anger. “People filmed it. Do you know how your father will react when he sees the videos?”

“Don’t lecture me, Julia.” She recoiled back and licked her lips. “In case you’re not aware, I don’t care about what anyone thinks.”

Her eyes softened, and she drew closer to me. She lifted her manicured fingers to touch my face, “Look at what that animal did to your nose.”

''Don't touch me!'' I snarled. Julia's eyes widened in hurt as I pushed her hand away.

''Asher, what's wrong?' she asked, her voice trembling. “I’m only trying to help. Don’t tell me you’re upset because of that bitch. She’s nothing, and you need to forget about her.” She raised her voice a little so Hannah could hear her. And she sure did.

''Just leave me alone, Julia,'' I wiped my nose again. ''I don't need your sympathy or your clinginess right now.'' Her face fell, and she looked at me with tears in her eyes. But I did not care.

She parted her lips to speak, her voice barely above a whisper. ''Asher, I-'' But before she could finish, Mr. Thompson walked in with a stern face.

“Come with me. All of you.” He started to walk away before any of us even rose to our feet.

Julia's words died on her lips as we reluctantly followed him. His office was a place no one wanted to be, but he worked for my father. He dared not punish me, the heir of the pack.

He pulled his chair out from behind his desk, the wooden legs scraping against the floor. He sat down with a deliberate slowness, his fingers crossing in front of him.

The room was silent for a while as he glanced at each of us. “Who wants to tell me what happened?''

Jace and Hannah exchanged glances before Jace finally decided to break the silence. ''It was just a misunderstanding, Sir,'' he said, trying to sound as convincing as possible. ''We were just having a disagreement, and it got out of hand.'' Mr. Thompson raised an eyebrow, his eyes skeptical.

''A disagreement that left Asher looking like that?'' He pointed at me, and I really wished I could punch him. Was he trying to say that it was obvious I lost the fight?

“I think we all know Asher is fragile,” Jace answered, and I caught the hint of amusement in his voice. Really?

"It's all his fault," I could barely keep my anger in. "He attacked me. Do you know what my father will do once he learns of this? He committed a crime, and he should be punished.”

“The only crime I committed was punching a bobblehead.” Jace rolled his eyes.

Mr. Thompson slammed his hand on the table. “That’s enough! You’re not here to argue.”

“You have to suspend him!” I turned to Jace. “He and his brothers don’t belong here.”

Julia nodded, but Hannah looked scared. Once the brothers were gone, who would be there to protect her? She was nobody without them, and she knew it.

Mr. Thompson sighed, rubbing his temples as if trying to ward off a headache. ''Asher, I understand your frustration, but if I must suspend Jace, then I must suspend you too.''

I felt my eyes widen in shock. Had the old man finally lost his mind? “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

"It's clear to me that you prompted the fight from what I heard.”

I jumped to my feet instantly. “My father made you win the election. You know what that means, especially when you’re talking to his son!”

''I'm willing to give you both a second chance.” Mr. Thompson continued like he had not heard what I said. “I'll dismiss you with a warning, but next time, there won't be any leniency. Do you understand?''

"Nonsense!" I slammed my hand on the table. My face turned red with rage. "You're just going to let him go with a warning?" I yelled, my voice echoing through the office. “Jace must be punished! You take orders from my father, so that means you take orders from me!”

Mr. Thompson stood up from his seat, "Asher, you need to calm down-"

"Don't tell me to calm down!' I snapped. ''You don't know what it's like to be in my shoes, to be humiliated by that...that...'' I gestured towards Jace, who was smiling, my hand shaking with rage. ''And you're just going to let him off scot-free. Remember that you’re speaking to the future Alpha of this pack!”

“What do you want me to do?” Mr. Thompson threw his hands in the air. “You’re the Alpha’s son, of course. Everyone knows that since you remind us every second. But let me also remind you that Jace is also one. His father is the Alpha of the most formidable pack in the territory. I shouldn’t be having this conversation with you, but you’ve obviously put me in a tight spot. I will not take sides, do you understand?”

The very man my father had put in position was shivering because of Jace?

“You’ll lose your job,” I told him, and his eyes widened. “I’ll make sure you regret this.”

I turned to Jace, my anger and frustration boiling over. ''You think you're so special, don't you?” He smirked and shrugged.

''You're just mad because you're weak,'' He mouthed. “You can only do so much with your father’s name. What can you do as Asher?”

“I’m going to kill you.” Hannah gasped and shuddered at my words. I jabbed a finger at Jace’s shoulder, and he shrugged it off. “I don’t care what or how long it takes, but I’ll kill you and turn this bitch you protect into a whore. Your brother will not be able to stop me from selling her off as a slave.”
