Chapter 219
HANNAH
"And then there's school," Willa said.
Yes, school. It took me back to my conversation with Cade about what we were going to do when our exams were finally over.
We had just talked about all that she- and by inclusion me- were going to do during our break.
Willa grinned and her eyes grew wistful. "I can't believe we're actually going to be graduating next year, saying goodbye to all the people I've literally grown up with and... going to a new school, meeting new people and doing new stuff. It's a really big change, but isn't it exciting?"
"Yeah it is," I said.
"For our graduation, I'm sure my dad and brothers are going to throw a party. A really big one with all the trimmings." For a moment more her dark eyes sparkled like she was imagining that party that would happen in the distant future. Maybe to her it was not so distant.
"It's still a year ahead though," I pointed out. "Plenty of time still."
"You're right," she said with a sigh. "What's more important now are the college applications."
She opened her drawer, searched it for a brief moment and took out a sheet of paper half covered in her handwriting. She held it up so I could see.
"I've been making a list of universities I'm going to apply to," she said. "Dad says it's not too early to start making plans."
"I agree."
She started to put it back, changed her mind and abruptly thrust the paper at me. "Do you want to see?"
"Sure," I said and took it from her. I grinned. "I was going to take a peek anyway if you hadn't just offered to show me.
On Willa's list were a number of universities spread across the territories that offered pretty good programs. "That's quite a list you have here."
"I know but I want to apply to as many of them as possible. Hopefully, I'll get accepted into a few-"
"Much more than a few," I interrupted. "You're an important Alpha's daughter after all. Not only that, you're pretty smart too."
Willa smiled her thanks. "Then I'll get to make my choice."
"Sounds like a good plan," I said, nodding approvingly.
"But all the others are just my backup really." She leaned forward and tapped the first name on the list- Worchmount University. "That's where I really want to go."
"And it's a good choice too," I said, handing the list back to her. "I've always known Worchmount to be the best university there is."
"What about you though? Do you want to go to Worchmount? It would be so cool if you and I went to the same school. We could go to the same frat parties, share the same dorm room and-" She suddenly broke off when she noticed my hesitation. She added quickly, "If you want to go to Worchmount, just say the word. I'm sure daddy would gladly foot the bills that's if my brothers don't step in first."
"It's not the money I'm worried about," I confessed.
Even my father was earning good money now as the Alpha's adviser. If I really wanted to go to Worchmount, I was pretty sure he would make it happen.
There was even Edward's influence too. He could pull strings that would make it easier for me to get accepted.
"Then what the matter? Don't you like Worchmount? Or is there another university you have in mind?"
"The thing is... I've always liked the idea of going to college. In fact, Worchmount was my first choice too ever since I was a little girl who knew what going to college meant. That was why I joined that pageant in the first place. Now I don't think I want to go anymore. I'm not saying I won't but the chances are pretty high."
"Why?" Willa asked quietly, turning in her chair so we were face to face. "You certainly have the brains for it. If you could be at the top of the class with everything that went on around here lately, think of what you would do in a school where you had zero distractions."
"I have thought of it." I paused for a bit to gather my thoughts. After that talk in the garden with Cade, I spent almost all my free time, thinking 'What comes next after school?'
"I just feel I could do something... more with my life. I've been toying with the idea of writing a book. I've always loved expressing myself that way. It could be a book about my experiences or it could be a book about something else. I haven't worked it all out yet. Also, I want to do more with my abilities. Use it to help people in our pack and beyond, you know?"
