Chapter 071
HANNAH
"Really?" Cade said with a dry chuckle. "I wonder... did you come to find out if Hannah was seriously hurt or not?" His eyes flickered to Julia's father, who was watching me with a look of concentrated hatred.
Cade took another step forward. "Because if you came all the way here to accuse Hannah of trying to kill Asher, then you have lost your damn mind. After all, your so-called heir is strong enough to take care of himself, isn't he? Or is he a weakling? I mean, it's really embarrassing for you to waltz in here with your son and accuse someone here of trying to kill him. But we all know you actually came here to accuse Hannah."
Alpha Dawson's face turned an alarming shade of red. Asher seemed to be putting a lot of effort into not saying anything.
"Shut your mouth, boy," Alpha Dawson growled. I could feel his aura as Alpha coming off him in waves. Unfortunately for him, it was lost on everyone in the room. "One more insolent word out of you, and I will teach you a lesson your father should have taught you years ago."
"Dawson!" Alpha Wallace's voice rang out as clear as a bell. He rose slowly from his chair. "Look around you and remember where you are. You are in my pack. You will not disrespect me and my sons."
"To hell with that!" Alpha Dawson waved a hand impatiently. "I will not stand here and listen to a boy speak to me that way. And I don't care who the hell rules this pack. If you have refused to teach your boys manners, I'll teach them myself. Do you think I enjoy driving to your pack to bicker with you or your sons?"
This had gone on long enough. I stepped forward and gently pushed Cade, who was in front of me, aside. He refused to move. He gave me a questioning look. I gave him a tiny nod in return. Reluctantly, he stepped aside.
"I didn't try to kill anyone," I said, my voice shaking slightly, not out of fear but anger. "I think you should ask your son what really happened."
It was stupid that I had to explain myself when one of the people who had committed the crime was standing right there.
Asher hissed. "You're not only a psychopath but a liar. Who the hell had a dagger to my throat, Hannah? Who tried to bash my brains in."
I ignored him and focused on Julia's father. "Go back and ask Julia who tried to kill her. By the way, you are aware that your precious daughter tried to poison me, aren't you?"
"A sick, twisted lie from a sick, twisted girl," Julia's father spat out. "Everyone knows Julia isn't capable of doing something like that. Even if she was, why would she bother with a nobody like you? Look!"
While he had been talking, he had been unwrapping something wrapped in a piece of cloth. It was a dagger. He held it up, moved it from side to side so that everyone could see. The light glinted off the sharp, wicked looking blade.
I recognized it at once as the dagger Julia had tried to kill me with.
"You see this?" he continued. "This was the dagger that this- this-"
"Think very carefully about what you want to say next," Cade muttered, cracking his knuckles.
Julia's father swallowed and decided not to use the cuss word after all. He pointed a finger at me. "She used this to stab my daughter. This is evidence."
Alpha Wallace, lowering himself back into his chair, chuckled.
"When you walked in here, Dawson, I assumed you had important things to say. Even now, I can see the flaw in your story. Still, let me take a closer look. Lucius."
Alpha Wallace held out his hand for the dagger. Lucius, Julia's father, placed it in his palm and quickly stepped back. Maybe he was scared the Alpha would use it on him.
Alpha Wallace turned the weapon over in his hand.
"Now I see it even clearer," Alpha Wallace said.
"See what?" Asher's father said with a sneer.
"The flaw in your so-called evidence." Alpha Wallace tapped a spot on the handle of the dagger. It was engraved with a snake curled around a glowing sun. There were some letters above it. He threw the dagger at Lucius, who caught it awkwardly. "The dagger has an insignia on it, which is clearly not from my pack. We both know where that knife came from. That means it can't belong to Hannah. So instead of standing there, accusing her, wasting your time and mine, go and ask Julia how she stole such a dagger and where she got it from."
