Chapter 335

WILLA

"THERON!" I shouted.
That finally got his attention. He stopped talking.
"You're shouting," he said.
"Damn right, I'm shouting! You've been talking and you won't even listen to me!"
"Oh right. I'm sorry," he said. "I'm so angry I got carried away. What were you saying again?"
I exhaled, massaged my temple slowly. Theron was beginning to give me actual headache.
"I haven't said anything," I said slowly. "because you haven't let me. I don't remember telling you to do anything about the blog post. I don't even remember talking to you about it."
"But you don't need to," he said, sounding genuinely surprised. "As your friend, I know what to do to defend you. I'll do with without you asking."
"That's the thing. You didn't ask. You just assumed I needed your help. I don't like what you did."
"And what is wrong with what I did, Willa?" he asked. "I just took the initiative, that's all. Somebody had to."
"Everything! Everything is wrong with what you did! Can't you see?"
"You don't need to shout," he whined.
"Look, I'm not some helpless girl that needs saving. I can handle this myself. Now I'll be blunt. I don't need your help. Don't want it. And please from now on, don't butt into my affairs."
There was silence from Theron's end, then he said quietly, "I can't promise not to."
Exasperated, I threw up my hands. In my entire life, didn't think I had ever come across anyone who liked to meddle so much!
"What is wrong with you?" I shouted, losing my temper. "Can't you ever respect my choices?"
"Sorry but the truth is most of the choices you've made lately are bad for you," Theron said patiently like he was lecturing a two year old. "No offense but you know I'm right.   I am trying to help you. There's no need to be mad at me."
"I'm warning you, Theron," I said, my voice trembling with anger. "If you don't stop this nonsense now, I will block your number."
"Willa-"
"I swear I will because talking to you seems to be going no where."
"Does this have anything to do with that Lucian?" he said. "He's there, turning you against me, isn't he?"
"Don't you dare bring Lucian into this!" I snapped. "It doesn't concern him."
"Doesn't it? Then why are you defending him. Willa, as long as you're still seeing him, I won't take anything you're saying seriously. It's obvious you're not still thinking strai-"
I ended the call. My fingers did not hesitate over the 'block' button.
I felt a twinge of guilt, but shrugged it off at once. I told myself Theron deserved it. Maybe blocking him would teach him to stop meddling.

On my way to class that afternoon, Naomi, who I hadn't noticed, stepped right into my path. From the looks of it, she had been hanging around, waiting for me.
"What do you want?" I asked, raising a brow.
Naomi's painted lips curled into a sneer.
"You are really playing house with him now, aren't you?" She laughed. "You certainly don't waste time. The other time we spoke, I asked you why you were not slumming with Lucain yet. Just days after, you're practically living in his room. Heard you even managed to get him to spend the night in your room." She shook her head. "You really are something, Willa."
"Are you spying on me now?" I said quietly.
Naomi flushed angrily. "Don't flatter yourself! I've got better things to do than waste a second of my time on the likes of you!"
Looking at Naomi, I honestly doubted it. She was still so hopelessly stuck in the past. Maybe she even imagined she and Lucian could get back together.
Whatever she did, she would not get a reaction out of me which was what she was obviously looking for. I would not give Worchmount's rumour mongers something else to talk about.
"Tell me," Naomi said. "Are you doing all this to try to prove a point to the rest of us?"
"No, actually. I'm trying to move on. You know what that is, don't you? You should try it sometime. It's sad to see you holding on to the past so desperately."
Naomi tried to smile but couldn't quite manage it.
"You must think you're all that now," she said. "Bad mistake, Willa. Never forget who you really are beneath all... this. Just an ordinary werewolf from a primitive pack no one knows about."
I swept passed her and continued down the corridor. My phone buzzed in my hand.
I glanced down at it. It was a text from Lucian.
Meet me in my room after your class. I want to show you something.
I hit 'reply' and typed Okay.
