Chapter 161
HANNAH
I walked through the doors of the school with my mates around me and Willa beside me. Jace held my hand firmly in his.
His fingers gently traced patterns on the back of my hand. His touch told me to stay calm. I tried to. I really did but every muscle in my body was tensed up. Who could blame me after what I had been through?
Thankfully the students weren't openly staring anymore although one or two of them did. When I noticed, I ignored them, keeping my eye on the back of Chase's head as he walked in front of us.
None of us spoke. We were all caught up in our own thoughts.
I felt a mix of anger and frustration. Anger because Asher had still not been caught. Frustration because After what he and his father had done, they were still alive and free. Worse they had started a war between their pack and Ice stone.
'It's not fucking fair!' I wanted to scream.
They were the ones in the wrong here. Yet they were putting us on the defensive!
This war had to be their way of avoiding the consequences of their actions. I was sure of it.
Now I was back to school, back to acting like everything was fine. It seemed to be the story of my life, pretending everytime that the Dawson's diabolical plans hadn't happened.
When would it all end? I wondered. I was getting sick and tired of having the same thing happen to me over and over again.
Wasn't there a force somewhere that punished wrongdoers? How could the world just go on after all the evil Dawson and his people had done?
We all came to a stop in front of my class. Jace reluctantly let go of my hand.
"See you after your classes?" he said.
"Sure," I replied.
He leaned forward for a kiss. I gave it to him- just a brush against his lips. Cade pecked me on the cheek. Chase gathered me into his arms and kissed me full on the mouth, not giving a damn about who was watching.
"Stay out of of trouble now," the brothers told Willa.
She rolled her eyes.
"Don't I always," she said.
Their regular teasing banter sounded hollow. Maybe Willa felt it too because the smile she gave her brothers was a little strained at the edges. We were all trying to act normally but it was still too obvious there was a shadow hanging over us.
Cade, Chase and Jace went off to their classes. I watched them walk away, suddenly wishing I didn't have to come to school.
Willa tugged on my arm.
"Let's go," she said.
I followed her into the classroom. It took us less than a minute to find seats and settle down. The door opened, a little too forcefully. I looked up from the notebook I had been doodling in, expecting to see the professor.
It was not the professor. It was two boys who had stormed into the classroom. Their faces were red and angry. They had the look of people wanting a fight. The chatter in the classroom stopped abruptly.
"All of you listen!" the larger boy shouted although there was no need to. The room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. "Where are the Ice Stone creeps? Point them out now!"
The class began to murmur as everyone wondered what the boys actually wanted. I met Willa's eyes. She looked as puzzled as I felt.
"What do you want people from Ice stone for?" said a boy at the back of the class.
"We need fucking justice," said the other boy, slamming his fists into his palm and glowering at everyone. "Haven't you all heard? Our Alpha almost got killed by Ice stone officials. The fuckers tried to assassinate him."
The murmurs became a confused, excited hum.
Of course what the boy said wasn't true. If anything remotely resembling that had happened, I would have heard it from Alpha Wallace himself. This was a rumour most likely spread by Asher and his father. The scheming bastards!
There weren't even taking a break from mischief after declaring their cold war. This was probably even the reason they were giving for going to war.
"Who the hell is from Ice stone pack here?" the first boy bellowed. "If you cover for them, you are a traitor!"
A girl who I was sure was from Dawson's pack pointed to a slim, slightly built girl. "She's from Ice stone pack."
The boys began to advance on the girl. She cringed, tried to flatten herself against her chair. They kept coming. She glanced quickly at the door but she couldn't get out without running into the boys. The whole class watched with an air of fascinated, horrified eagerness.
