Chapter 122

HANNAH

Willa giggled but quickly stifled it with her hand pressed against her mouth, maybe.

"Cade..." I hissed, my eyes darting around self-consciously. This was embarrassing, but for some reason, also romantic. I had always loathed seeing couples kissing in the hallway, but as I stared at Cade, I didn’t think it was such a bad idea.

He tipped up my chin, forcing me to meet his eyes. I glared at him. Or at least tried to. It was hard to stay mad when his perfect face was inches away from mine.

"I know you're scared because of the attacks," Cade murmured. "But you don't have to be. I promise I'll protect you with my life. We will all do... without hesitation." A corner of his lips curled into a smile. "Also, I want you to know that you're the most perfect girl ever. Don't you ever think of yourself as less."

He lowered his head and sealed his declarations with a kiss that made my toes curl. For a moment, there was nothing like time or space. It was just Cade and me, floating in our own little bubble.

My tongue traced the curves of his lips. With a groan, his hands clasped my waist. He deepened the kiss.

The sound of Willa clearing her throat pulled me out of the pleasure-induced haze that had clouded my brain. I turned my head sharply to the side, breaking the kiss.

Talking from the corner of her mouth, Willa said, "Umm I hate to break this up, but-" She jerked her thumb over her shoulder. "People are staring."

She was right. People were staring.

The embarrassing flush crept up my cheeks again. Cade, on the other hand, didn't seem the least bit concerned that we now had quite an audience. He languidly straightened when I poked him hard in the chest.

"Sorry, I got a little carried away," he said, not sounding sorry at all. "Your beauty does that to me." He turned to some girls standing huddled together. "She's beautiful, isn't she?"

All the girls nodded. A few batted their lashes hopefully at him, but Cade didn't notice. He was already turning away. He took in all of the students watching.

"I'm so damn happy Hannah's my mate," he said in a loud, clear voice. What the hell had gotten into him?

He kissed me swiftly on the lips before I could pull away. He winked, ruffled Willa's hair, slung his bag over his shoulder, and headed to class. The rest took it as a cue to stop gawking. A lot of them started moving on.

"I can't believe that guy," Willa said, laughing and trying to pat down her hair. "Cade's so cheesy."

I allowed myself a small smile. "Cade's not cheesy. He's-" I paused, searching for the right word to describe him. "He's romantic."

Willa rolled her eyes. "Yeah right. What he just did was straight out of a romantic movie we watched once. But I get you, though. It was sweet... I wouldn't mind him doing it again if it means getting to see you blush like that."

This time I laughed. Willa moved closer to help me arrange my locker. Her eyes grew a little serious.

"I guess Cade must be your favourite," she said.

I shook my head slowly and started stuffing some of the books into my bag. "I don't have a favourite."

Willa raised her eyebrows. "Three of them, and you don't have a favourite? Honestly, I find that a little hard to believe."

"But it's still the truth." My movements slowed as I tried to find the words to explain it all to Willa.

"Our triple mate bond is... different somehow," I explained. "There is something unique about each of them that I like, so I bond with all of them differently."

"Sounds too confusing," Willa said after musing for a few seconds. "I hope I have just one mate when the time comes."

"Or maybe you'll have four," I teased.

Willa glared at me and mock shuddered. We had taken just a few steps when I spotted Mia.

She came towards us, moving in that self-assured way she had. Her clothes were as perfect as ever.

"Hello Hannah," she said, her eyes drifting to Willa.

"Hi Mia. This is Willa," I said.

The girls shook hands, Willa a little cautiously.

"I saw you just now with a guy. Is he your boyfriend?" Mia asked.

"One of them," I corrected. "I'm actually dating triplets. Willa is their sister."

"I see." Her eyes lingered on Willa. "I'm not surprised you're related because you're really pretty and your brother..."

"Cade," I finished.

Mia smiled. "Cade is all shades of hot. You're a lucky girl, Hannah?"

I smiled. “It’s not a big deal.”

“Oh, but it is.” Mia winked. “So……did you ever get to think about my question? Do you think we can be friends?”
