Chapter 260

WILLA

I was just able to yank the gag out and pull up my jeans up before my legs gave out. I sat on the floor. Hard. I was shaking all over but not from the cold.

Just a few seconds more, I kept thinking. Just a few seconds more and the boy would have done something that would have scarred me for life. Something nothing could ever have made better.

In that moment, I didn't even feel relief. Only fear.

What if Lucian hadn't come? What if the rapist had pulled me to the deeper into the dark? What if I had been wearing a gown instead of a pair of very tight jeans? What if-

"What the hell are you doing out so late?" Lucian growled.

He looked really big towering over me. The tears streaming down my face blurred most of his features but I could tell he was angry.

"I asked you a question," he went on. "Why are you out here at this time of the night? You do know what the time it is, don't you?"

I started to nod then I shook my head. I had no idea what the time was. I had lost my wristwatch in the struggle.

"It can be dangerous out here especially when you're all alone. Even though you're new to Worchmount, you should know that. Even little kids know not to walk alone in the dark for fuck's sake!" he said and shoved his fingers through his hair. In a softer tone he said, "You're damn lucky I arrived when I did. You-"

The boy on the ground groaned. Lucian's head whipped around in time to see him crawling slowly away on his stomach. He grabbed handfuls of grass to pull himself forward.

Every couple off seconds he would stop to catch his breath before going on.

"And where do you think you're going, asshole?" Lucian growled.

The boy looked over his shoulder, saw Lucian marching towards him, swinging his large fists. The boy opened his mouth to scream.

"Bad idea," Lucian said. "Scream and I won't stop until I've smashed up your face so bad you won't be able to make a sound for the rest of your fucking life."

The boy swallowed. He raised one hands to protect his face which was already so bloody I could barely make out his features.

"Please," the boy croaked. "Please."

"Bet she said that when you attacked her," Lucian said and smashed a fist against the side of his face.

Blood and spit flew from the boy's mouth. This time he did scream. Loudly.

Lucian made no move to shut him up. In fact he didn't seem to mind. He just turned the boy over and punched him, concentrating mostly on his face.

Pretty soon the boy stopped screaming. He moaned. Then even that stopped too.

All I heard was the sound of Lucian's fist hitting flesh and occasionally some cracking sounds when Lucian hit hard enough to break some bones. The only signs that the boy was alive were the periodic jerks of his legs and arms.

Finally Lucian got to his feet, kicked him in the ribs hard enough to make the boy groan. The boy's face was a swollen battered mess.

His nose was canted at an angle. It was bleeding freely. The boy again rolled over on his stomach.

This time he didn't make a move to crawl away. He just lay there, taking deep wheezing breaths.

Lucian shook his fists, rolled his shoulders. He glared down at the boy, looking as though he desperately wanted to keep beating his ass.

The boy looked just about done in. I knew if Lucian hit him again, he  would probably kill him.

With a muttered curse, Lucian turned away and marched up to me.

"Can you walk?" he asked, staring at me.

I started to say 'no', realized my vocal cords were still locked. I shook my head instead.

Lucian grunted and swept me up into his arms. He cradled me against his chest.

I didn't fight him. I couldn't have even if I had tried. I just burrowed close to him while sobs tore through me.

He walked easily over to his dorm room a few blocks away. We got to what had to be his door. He started to open it.

"I- I d-don't think-" I stammered.

Lucian raised one eyebrow and waited for me continue. I found I couldn't say one more word to save my life.

"Do you want to go to your room?" he asked, looking down at me. "Is that it?"

I shook my head quick enough. I couldn't bear going back to that room, seeing all those torn clothes which I knew Naomi and the others would never bother picking up.
