Chapter 263
WILLA
My fingers curled over the edge of my desk.
Last night.
Theron had looked me right in the face and lied to me! So Sylvia had been the really important stuff he had been dealing with.
"I wonder what his new girlfriend would say when she finds out," I heard a girl say.
"She won't say a thing because she's not even his girlfriend," Sylvia said. "She was Theron's little plaything and that didn't last even up to a week. He's so done with her."
"You did say their relationship wouldn't last a few days," another girl pointed out.
"Of course I did!" Sylvia said. "I know Theron like the back of my hand. Haven't I told you guys that? I'm the only girl he's ever really cared about. Besides considering who he is, why would he want to keep being seen around with an ordinary werewolf? It would be social suicide."
"Are you guys like back together?" someone asked.
Sylvia laughed. "Wouldn't you like to know!"
Sienna's hand touched mine and squeezed gently. I made myself let go of the table one finger at a time.
She leaned close enough to whisper, "Ignore them. I'm sure all that crap she said is not true. She must be making it all up to get you upset. Don't give her what she wants."
I promised I wouldn't but I didn't think Sienna was right. She didn't know about me trying to reach Theron last night.
I barely listened to the professor. When he asked me a question, I couldn't even think of an answer.
After class when Sienna suggested a stop at the cafeteria, I told her there was something important I had to do.
I waited outside Theron's class, beckoned him over when he came out with the other students.
"Hey Willa. What's up?" he said. "Want to hang out?"
"We need to talk," I said shortly and walked out of the building where we could have some privacy.
At the entrance to the parking lot I stopped. His smile started to fade.
"What's this about?" Theron asked. "You look upset. Is this still about last night? I said I was so-"
"I want the truth."
"The truth about what?" he said a little anxiously.
"About what you were really doing last night when I called."
"I don't know what-"
"Did you really hook up with Sylvia?" He started to say something. "Remember, the truth."
Theron swallowed, nodded and said, "Yes but I swear it wasn't planned. It just... happened."
"Seriously? I can't believe you right now!"
He started foward, stopped when I backed away. "Willa, I'm sorry. I-"
"You made me look like a complete fool. If you were tired of our game, if you didn't want to pretend to be with me anymore, the least you could have done is told me so I could have found away to get out of this not looking like an idiot. Do you know how I felt after hearing what happened?"
"How did you hear it?"
"Does it matter?"
Theron shook his head slowly. *No. I guess not but please-"
"I needed you last night," I suddenly blurted out. "I at least needed a friend. Want to know what really happened last night? Why I really called you?"
"Willa, I-"
"My roommates- I'm damn sure it was them- tore my clothes to pieces. And I mean everything, even down to my underwear. I had to quickly go out to buy some clothes really early this morning so I wouldn't show up in school wearing yesterday's clothes."
Theron stared. He shoved his fingers through his hair. "Shit Willa. That's horrible. I had no idea-"
"Of course you didn't," I said bitterly. "How could you? You were too busy with the ex we had agreed you were trying to make jealous. I needed someone to have my back, to tell me that things wouldn't always be so shitty but you weren't there."
"I'm sorry," he said. "I really am."
I thought that things were really past sorry at this point. What he had done had humiliated me some more. And if Naomi heard what had happened as she would it was another thing she could use against me.
I stalked off, leaving Theron talking and apologizing to thin air.
I went to the cafeteria, thinking I would find Sienna there. Right then listening to her usual chatter about everything and nothing would be soothing. She wasn't there but Naomi and Lucian were.
There were seated at a table kissing passionately. Naomi was making sounds that belonged more in a bedroom than in a school environment. I wondered how anyone could stand it.
I turned around and stormed back out.
My day had just gotten a lot worse, something I wouldn't have thought possible.
