Chapter 054
HANNAH
It’s been two days, and I still have no answers. No one was telling me anything or explaining the numerous weird things happening.
I eyed the door and considered bolting out but discarded the thought. Jace, Cade, and Chase were guarding it too well. I wouldn't be able to get past whatever security detail they had kept outside.
It had been two days of being confined to this room, not doing anything but eating, sleeping, and thinking of things that got me nowhere. It didn't help that no one was willing to discuss what was happening to me. On my own, I hadn't been able to figure out shit!
I had no idea why my hair had turned white, but what was more worrying was how I had literally made the room shake. It scared me, and it scared others more. I felt like everyone had begun looking at me like I was some kind of monster.
A loud knock interrupted my thoughts, and I sighed.
In a loud voice, I called, "Come in."
Jace pushed the door open and strolled in with a little smile on his face.
"Good to see you're awake," he said. "How are you doing?"
"I'm not doing well," I answered sharply, and his smile immediately turned to a frown.
"Why? Should I call the doctor?"
"It's not an issue for the doctor, Jace. How can I be fine with the way you're all treating me like I'm some kind of- of ticking time bomb waiting to explode? Do you think I'm going to snap when I get out of here?"
"No. No. Of course not. Look..." I scooted over on the bed and he came to sit beside me. "We're not keeping you here because we're afraid of you. We're keeping you here because you seem hellbent on hurting Julia."
He was right about that. Two days hadn't lessened my need for revenge. Not one bit. On the other hand, it had fueled it.
"You see what I'm talking about?" he said after studying my face for some seconds. "You still want to go after Julia even though you know deep down that it's a bad idea."
"Is it? How am I supposed to let her go after what she did? I could have died."
"I know that, but you can't go back to your pack now. It's not safe there. Asher can't wait to get those paws of his on you. As for Julia, you can deal with her later after you've come up with a very good plan to do that.
That okay?" I slowly glanced at him before I nodded. "Anything else? You still don't look happy."
"I'm scared," I admitted, hugging myself. "I don't know what's happening to me. Everything is... not normal."
"Don't be scared," he said softly. "We'll figure it out together. You'll be fine. By the way, my father just got back. He wants to see you. Him and everybody else... that is if you are up for it."
I quickly agreed. Anything beats sitting or lying in this room all day, even if I was just going to another part of the house.
Jace led me into the room where Alpha Wallace was waiting. Chase and Cade were there. To my right were Willa and my mother.
Alpha Wallace's face betrayed his surprise at seeing me standing on my own two feet. The next moment, he had regained his composure.
"I was so sorry to hear what happened to you before and after the meeting with Dawson," he said after I had bowed in greeting. He waved me into a seat. "It's a pity you did not think my sons and I capable enough to protect you and your mother from harm. If you had taken us into your confidence, a lot of this... unpleasantness would have been avoided."
I inclined my head a little. "I know, Alpha and I'm sorry. At the time, I thought I was doing what was best. I did not want to lose my mother."
He waved one hand. "It's okay. I totally understand. I must say that you are lucky to be alive. No one survives poison by wolfsbane. I am glad to see that you are well, too. Your hair... It has changed colour."
There. That was what this had been building up to. I clearly saw the interest spark in his eyes the moment he mentioned my hair.
"Yes," I said. "I woke up to find it this way."
"So I was told. Chase tells me he has a theory for it."
Chase shifted in his chair and looked like he was about to say something but was stopped by glares from his brothers and sister. Everyone needed to cut him some slack. At least, he was the only one with a theory. No one's hair turns white without a reason, and I was dying for any reason at all to explain my situation.
