Chapter 311

LUCIAN

"I was... I was hoping to look at some books," I replied lamely.
She pursed her thin lips and said, "May I suggest that if you do not wish to make proper use of this facility, you may better for employ your time somewhere else?"
I stole a quick glance at Willa. She was so absorbed in her conversation with Sienna that she hadn't noticed the librarian yet.
The last thing I wanted was to call attention to myself.
I nodded and reshouldered my backpack. "Right. I er- have somewhere to be."
The librarian bowed stiffly as I left the library.
Talk about bad timing! A few seconds more and I would have known for sure if Willa and Theron were an item or not.
In a foul mood, I stalked down the main hall. There I saw the only person guaranteed to make me even angrier.
Theron.
He was leaning against a locker, laughing at something someone had said. He was definitely the center of attraction today.
Apart from a four other guys around him, passing students stopped to give him a friendly pat on the shoulder or to shake his hand. I stopped five lockers away from his to listen.
There was something very smug in his carriage. He was probably replaying his little show from earlier.
One of the guys around him laughed and said, "I never thought you were such a romantic, Theron."
Theron smirked, dusted an invisible speck of dust off his black leather jacket. "What can I say? When you meet the right girl, she brings out parts of you you didn't even know existed."
The guys threw back their heads laughed like he had said something funny. The sound of their laughter grated on my nerves.
"You even talk like a poet now!" another of them said.
"Wait. Did you compose the note the love bugs read out earlier?" asked another.
Theron smiled. "Of course I did. When I go after a woman, I put my heart and soul into it. I don't mind telling you guys..." He sunk his voice into a whisper that could still be heard through the hall. "Willa Wallace is thewoman for me."
"How are you so sure?" one of Theron's stupid friends asked. "You haven't been together long."
Theron placed his hand on his chest, above his heart.
"I feel it here," he said. "Besides what's not to love about Willa? She's the most beautiful, most perfect girl I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and-"
He jerked his hand away as the phone in his breast pocket buzzed. He pulled it out and grinned.
"One second, guys," he said.
The smirk on his face grew wider as he typed a message on his phone.
Was it Willa texting him? It had to be, else why would he look like that? He wouldn't be grinning if it wasn't her.
I hated feeling this way; powerless, jealous, angry.
My fingers curled into fists. I swung my arms slowly back and forth as I imagined walking over to Theron and planting a fist in his face.
I took a step forward. I stopped. I shook my head to clear it.
Now was not the time for a fight with Theron. There would be other better opportunities in future to beat the crap out of him.
I didn't trust myself two yards from Theron so turned and left the building using the other exit. I went straight to the university's training ground.
I dumped my bag on the floor, ignoring people who called my name. Liam, smiling, stepped into my path.
"Hey, Lucian," he said. "Want to-"
He saw the look on my face and promptly took himself off. Rolling up the sleeves of my shirt, I approached one it the punching dummies.
Someone called out and threw me a pair of boxing gloves. I let it lie on the floor.
I wanted no padding between my fists and the dummy's face. I aimed a punch at the dummy's face, imagined Theron's stupid smirking face on it and let fly.
The dummy rocked backwards. I hit it again, this time in the chest. I gritted my teeth and went on punching over and over again, wishing it was Theron here in the flesh.
In my head like a picture show were images of Willa, the kiss we had shared, pulling Noami off her at the stream, the night of passion we had spent together.
Didn't all those memories mean nothing to her? How could she go running back to Theron after just one fight?
I growled and struck the dummy again with all I had. It swayed and bounced before steadying.
I flexed my aching fingers, wiped sweat off my brow and exhaled.
I needed to talk to Willa. I needed her to understand.
