Chapter 087

HANNAH

Willa threw open the door of Cade's room with a cry of "She did it."

I grinned at the surprised look on the triplet's faces.

"Willa!" Jace exclaimed.

"There's something called knocking, you know," Cade scolded. "That's why we have doors. I could have been naked and-"

Willa, not looking sorry in the least, interrupted him with yet another cry of "She did it!"

Cade, probably about to scold her some more, frowned. Then his face lit up when he looked over her shoulder and spotted me.

"Hey. Hannah," he said.

The other two quickly sat up. I felt my grin get even wider as I watched the three of them, in that strange way, siblings who had shared a womb at the same time, figure out the meaning behind Willa's words.

Three pairs of eyes widened at the exact same moment.

"Oh," said Chase. "You mean-"

My head bobbed quickly up and down. "Yes. Yes. I'm finally on to the next round."

Cade pumped his fists into the air. A laughing Jace playfully mussed up his sister's hair as she danced into the room. Chase, the closest to me, pulled me into a hug. I returned it eagerly this time. I felt myself relax in his arms.

It was amazing the difference a few hours had made. The nerves were gone. My confidence was back. I couldn't remember being this happy since the 'White Wolf' episode.

Chase took my hand and led me to a chair. "Come on. Sit and tell us all about it."

I did. I gave them every single detail, starting from when they had dropped me off at the auditorium. Willa kept chipping in, adding flowery and hilarious details.

I told them how I felt when I walked up the stage and how hopeless I was when my name wasn’t called earlier. In the rush of the moment, I told them everything.

Cade chuckled. He leaned back in his chair. "All that worry over nothing. I would have told you for free that you had absolutely nothing to worry about. I knew you were good enough to win this thing, Hannah."

Chase raised his hand. "And I second that. It was smart, your reading idea. I bet that will leave quite an impression on the judges."

"I was the twenty-eight person to be called though," I said. “That doesn’t seem like I left quite an impression.”

That was the only slight damper on my excitement. I felt it meant I was good but would have to do something bigger, more radical, to get into the top ten and eventually win the pageant.

"She's worrying again," Willa said, glancing up from a glossy motorcycle magazine she was lazily flipping through. “You should enjoy your win, girl!”

Cade wheeled his chair to me, his eyes watching me intensely. His lips touched the frown lines on my forehead. "Stop thinking too much and enjoy the moment. You'll kill it at the next competition. You're perfect, Hannah. Never forget that."

I sighed and felt the last of the worry slip off my shoulders like a physical weight.

"Thanks," I said. "I needed that... reassurance. So tell me, how was your football game?"

"Pretty nice," Cade answered. "Just that you and Willa took forever getting back, and we missed you."

"In more ways than one," Cade said.

His eyes slid over my body in a way that sent heat flooding through every cell in my body. Jace quickly sucked in some breath.

The atmosphere in the room changed in an instant from playful and light to something very dark and passionate.

"It's late," I murmured, looking right into his eyes. "I thought you three would be too tired."

"Not for this... never for this," he said.

Jace cleared his throat loudly. He glanced at Willa. She was sprawled on the bed and was flipping through another magazine. "Willa, don't you have stuff to do?"

"Stuff like what? Hey Cade, all your magazines are pretty boring. Don't you have interesting stuff to read?"

"It's a boy's room, Willa," Cade pointed out. "There are no magazines about hair products and makeup."

Willa shrugged and reached for another one. "This one looks good."

"Okay then. I'm sure Cade will let you borrow it. If you want, you can borrow all of them. Take them to your room to read and return them tomorrow or... next week."

Willa shook her head. "Nah. I just want one. know when I'll find the right one. I'll keep looking."

Cade and Chase groaned. Jace rolled his eyes at the ceiling. I hid a grin. Willa could be so clueless sometimes.

Jace's fingers started to trace patterns on my palm. That struck the grin right off my face.

"You don't know anything about being subtle, do you, Willa?" Jace asked. “Do we have to spell out the words for you?”

Willa snorted. She didn't raise her head. "What are you talking about?"

Jace threw his hands up in the air. "Sex, Willa. Sex!” Jace seemed to have lost his mind, and Cade was only laughing. “We've been trying to get you out of the room for the last couple of minutes. You're not taking the hint. We. want. to. have. sex."
