Chapter 158

ASHER

I continued even though his eyes had widened. "I've had enough of it. You hear me? I'm done. If you want to go chasing Hannah around the world, then go ahead and do it yourself!"

His fist moving as fast as lightning, struck me square on the jaw. My head snapped to the side. My father came at me again. I stopped his blow with an open palm. He stared at his fist on my palm like he couldn't believe his eyes.

I punched him in the face. Hard. He staggered backwards.

"That's it," I yelled. "Keep your fucking hands away from me from now-"

With a yell he charged, ducking his head and head-butting me in the stomach. I went down. I hit him on his face, his bleeding jaw, his neck, anywhere my hands could reach. He took the blows with his teeth bared in a grimace.

I struggled to get up. He straddled me. His blows rained down, driving the breath right out of my lungs after the fifth one. At a point, I lost count. Just when I thought I would pass out, he stopped with his fist inches away from my broken nose.

"You want to fight me, boy," he growled, still showing his teeth. "You are not man enough. You will never be man enough. I was right, you will never be worthy to take on the title of Alpha. You hear me? Never!"

The blood from my nose poured without stopping right into my mouth. It ran down my neck and chest. Some of it started to go back into my nostrils and I felt like I was drowning, drowning in my own blood.

I struggled to get up. With a hand planted in my chest, my father shoved me back down.

Just then a man ran in. My father turned, slowly but reluctantly got off me. Quickly I turned my face to the side and could finally breathe again.

"Alpha," the man said, then stopped. He was one of the councilmen that had been at the warehouse.

His face and hands twitched nervously as he took in the scene. Like a fish out of water, he opened and closed his mouth not knowing what to say.

"Well?" my father said sharply. "Where are the others? How many escaped?"

The man swallowed. "I'm the only one who managed to escape. Those that aren't dead have been taken."

With a grunt, I sat up. I waited then slowly and painfully climbed to my feet.

"It's over, father," I said. "Hannah has won. She has taken everything. It's time to accept the fact that we lost."

"Shut up!" he bellowed. "You know nothing!" To the councilman who took an involuntarily step backwards at the rage in his eyes, he said, "Contact important pack members, anyone with money, influence and a high ranking family."

The councilman gave a jerky bow. "At once, Alpha but- but what should I tell them?"

"Just this. That I am going to declare a cold war between our pack and Ice stone pack."

The man's eyes grew round as did mine.

"A war?" I said. "Is that what we really need right now? Have you thought about the implications?"

My father gave me a look of withering contempt. "You're a fool if you don't know this is exactly what we need right now. I have no doubts that Hannah and the Ice stone pack will come after us. The only way we can stop that is by declaring a war against them, a war that will keep both packs apart."

I thought he was a bigger fool to think the war would actually be enough to keep the Wallace's out now that they were actively thirsting for our blood.

"This is the end, isn't it?" I said quietly.

I left them. In my room, I dragged out a suitcase and started packing my things. From today I was done with this shit. I didn't know where I would go yet or what I would do, but I was certainly getting out of here.

As I zipped the suitcase closed, someone pounded on my door.

"What is it?" I called out impatiently.

No answer. I stomped over to the door, threw it open. Outside were guards, half a dozen of them.

"Well?" I said.

One of the guards nodded to the others. Before I could blink, both my arms were grabbed.

"What? What do you think you're doing?" I shouted.

I struggled but there was not much I could do against that number of men.

"Let me go!" I said. They started to drag me down the corridor. "Where are you taking me? I demand to know!"

"Sorry, Master Asher," said the guard who had given the signal. "But we are acting on your father's orders."
