Chapter 044

CADE

"You threatened her and her mother, you lying piece of shit!" I yelled.

My head throbbed with rage. There was more, much more I wanted to say to the asshole standing in front of me, but more than anything, I wanted to plant my fist in his face, and see his teeth littered on the floor.

"Bloody coward and liar,," I yelled again, and because Asher still kept pretending like he didn't know what I was talking about, I found myself rushing forward, closing the distance between us with my fist raised.

Arms, my brother's arms around my waist and on my arm prevented me from going another step forward. Why would they stop me from dealing with this asshole? He hurt Hannah, he hurt our mate. The least we could do was break his bones.

"What the hell are you two doing?" I barked. "Let me go. Let me at him."

"It's not the way to go. At least not yet," Chase hissed, and tightened his grip on my waist.

"Be a little calm, Chase," Hannah's mother said in a low tone.

She had stood in a way that she was almost hidden by my brothers and I. Still she kept shooting nervous, terrified glances at Asher.

"Pipe down. Please," Jace said.

"You should listen to your brothers," Asher said as he had been listening intently to our exchange. "Surprisingly, they seem to be reasonable today."

My brothers immediately turned and snarled at him. That had him backing up a few steps before he could stop himself.

Confronting Asher and his father had so far not gone the way I had anticipated. Now I was wishing I had come here alone. By now, I would most likely had Asher beaten to a pulp for what he had done.

"Say that again, you coward, and that will be the last thing you ever say," I threatened.

Asher raised one arrogant brow. "Say what? That you should listen to your brothers? Or that I don't know what the fuck you're talking about?"

"Do you still deny it, you-"

"And what is going on here?" I heard the cold, clear voice of Alpha Dawson as he strolled into the room, flanked by several bodyguards.

I noted that the number of the guards were a bit too much for accompanying him into just a room in his own house. Clearly, the scheming bastard wasn't taking any chances with us present. Probably thought we would start a pack war or something. From where I stood, that even sounded like a pretty damn good idea at this point.

Alpha Dawson glanced at us dismissively and addressed his son. "Asher?"

Asher shrugged. "Search me. They seem to have a bee in their bonnets about something. They barged in here and started raving about..." He proceeded to make an almost convincing perplexed face. "about me threatening somebody or the other."

"Fucking liar!" I bellowed. "You know damn well who you two threatened! I swear by the goddess, I'll-"

"Enough!" Alpha Dawson barked. "You will stop barking this instant, young man or I will have my guards throw you all out." The guards tensed as though eagerly waiting for those instructions. "You are in my pack, in my house and I will not have a shouting match with you three in it." He lowered his voice. "Now, what is the problem?"

Jace scoffed. "Oh come on. Don't pretend. I'm sure you know damn well why we're here." He glanced at the guards and I knew that the significance of their presence was not lost on him. "You lied and cheated and didn't fulfill your end of the bargain. You forced Hannah to accept your asshole of a son-"

"Hey! Watch your mouth," Asher hissed. “Or I will break your jaw.”

"You watch yours," Chase chipped in. “The last time, it was your nose. This time, your entire face will be unrecognizable.”

Alpha Dawson barked out a humourless laugh. "And is that all you came to say? To throw around false accusations? But hold on a minute. Did you even have to come all the way here to run your mouths? We could have dealt with whatever this is over the phone, right?"

This time, I really did lose it. I lunged at Alpha Dawson. My brother's stopped me before I could wrap my hands around his throat. I gave a yell of frustration and turned on them, fighting hard to free myself. But it was two against one and I couldn't.

"You evil psychopath," I screamed. "You call yourself an Alpha? You're nothing but a weak bully who has no honour. You’re supposed to protect your people but you use your powers against them. What kind of Alpha does that make you, huh? You're a disgrace to this pack!"
