Chapter 243

WILLA

His smile made another appearance. Leaning a little close so none of the other students could hear us, he said. "I've decided I'm going to do this fake relationship thing with you."

It took a few minutes to digest this. Then I thought he was actually going to do this for me!

"But... You were dead set against it before. What made you change your mind?"

Theron shrugged. "Oh I don't know. Some reason, I guess."

"That's not an answer," I pointed out.

"Who cares about an answer anyway. We're doing this, aren't we?"

Before I could ask another question, he took or rather grabbed my hand as if afraid I wouldn't let him touch me.

"What-" I began.

That was as far as I got because the next moment his long legs were eating up the distance leading to the cafeteria.

I noticed the way students stood aside to let him pass. I hitched a smile onto my face so it wasn't obvious I didn't have a clue what was going on.

He stopped in the middle of the large room to survey the area. With the hand not holding mine, he pointed to an empty table.

"That one," he said and smiled down at me.

Just as we got to it, he let go of my hand so he could pull the chair out for me. A little dazed, I sat. He planted a kiss on top of my head before taking his seat.

I looked around, noticed for the first time that every single eye in the cafeteria was fixed on us. Some persons, seeing I had noticed them staring, made a show of returning to what they had been doing.

Most didn't though. They were openly staring.

I felt a blush creep up my cheeks. I wished that my hair was longer so it could at least screen one half my face.

Theron looked perfectly as ease, as if we had done this several times before.

"Fancy anything particular to eat?" he asked me.

"I-uh-I-"

"Never mind. I know what's good here."

He left, soon returned with a tray of sandwiches and something in plastic cups. I bit into my sandwich, hardly tasting it although a part of my brain registered that it was good. Really good.

All those eyes watching me made me very uneasy. And there was something more... coming from my left.

I glanced in that direction and saw Lucian glaring at me. I found myself shrinking against my chair and looked away quickly.

It helped to focus on Theron sipping his drink. I cleared my throat. Theron paused mid-sip.

"Something on your mind?" he said.

"Now that we're really doing this-" I paused, waiting for him to object if he wanted to. He nodded for me to go on. "I think we should establish some kind of rules."

"Fair enough. What... rules did you have in mind?"

I had one very important one off the top of my head. "First rule. No intimacy. No sex. Maybe a little PDA like today maybe, but nothing more than that."

Theron's lips turned down at the corners. For some reason he seemed not to be happy about that rule but he nodded. "Got it. No intimacy." After a beat, he said, "Anything else?"

I shook my head. "I can't think of anything else right now. I'll guess we'll make it up as we go along."

Now it was all done, I couldn't help wondering if my plan would work. Did Lucian care enough about me to even get a tiny bit jealous?

Theron tilted up my chin. "Willa, as of now you have no business with Lucian anymore so try to stop looking pathetic when you see him. You want people to believe we are actually dating, don't you?"

"Of course!"

I took a bite out of my sandwich, found myself turning slightly to take another peek at Lucian. It wasn't something I planned on doing. It was just happening.

"Willa!" Theron said sharply.

"What?"

"Also no staring at Lucian."

I rolled my eyes. "Fine."

"I have a few rules of my own," Theron said after a pause. "You'll go to parties with me. We'll hang out. You'll come to my room frequently."

"Why? All that isn't necessary at all."

"It is to me," he argued. "I like doing whatever I do thoroughly. We've got to be seen together in places apart from school."

"Fine," I said reluctantly.

I figured Theron wasn't asking for too much after all. Hanging out with him from time to time wouldn't be that bad.

"Cool," Theron said and leaned back.

A chair scraped loudly against the floor. I looked in Lucian's direction in time to see him kick his chair out of the way and stalk out of the cafeteria.
