Chapter 265

WILLA

"Well?" I said. I was all smiles. "How about this one? Good enough? Honest opinion."

Theron rotated his forefinger, a sign for me to turn around. I did.

"Keep doing this every time I try on something and you'll make me dizzy. Then you'd have to carry me back," I joked.

"The dress is nice," Theron said. "It looks good on you but the colour makes your fair skin look dull. Look for something that complements your complexion. Something with this same design, maybe."

The sales attendant nodded.

"I agree," she said. "You need a dress that calls attention to your lovely skin, miss. Maybe you could try something in a brighter colour."

Theron grinned. He leaned up and propped one leg up on the table. "See? I'm quite the expert on clothes. If you weren't my friend, you'd probably be paying me for consultations."

I rolled my eyes. I took a couple of dresses off the hanger. Another one caught my eye just as I was leaving. I hesitated then took that one too.

"Yeah. Don't just get a big head," I said and re-entered the changing room.

I came out a couple of minutes later in a flowery print dress. I was pretty sure Theron would approve of this one even though he didn't particularly like very bright colours.

"How about this one?" I asked.

"I think it's-

I caught some movement over Theron's shoulder, looked over it and sucked in a startled breath.  Theron turned in time to see Naomi and Lucian walking in, hand in hand.

I felt the smile I had been wearing all afternoon fade. Why couldn't I manage to ever get a break from Lucian? Like a bad penny, he was always showing up.

Lucian gave ma a once over. It was a slow one to make me feel small and inadequate. Couldn't I catch a break from him and his evil girlfriend?

Theron sprang up and out of the couch. He slipped an arm around my waist.

"Wow baby. You look sexy," he said "We're definitely getting this dress." He turned to the sales attendant. "Do you have any others just like this?"

The woman smiled. "Sure. It's part of the collection of a promising new designer."

"Cool." Theron's hand casually travelled up and down my back. I leaned into him and faked a smile I sure hoped looked genuine.

Lucian was clearly reflected in one of the full length mirrors in the room. He was clenching his fists tightly.

Naomi touched his arm.

"Lucian," she said. "Let's go to another store. There's one just down the street."

Lucian shook her off and came further into the room.

To the sales attendant, he said in a low commanding voice, "Tell the manager I'm here."

The woman bowed.

"There will be no need for that, sir," she said. "I already know what you need."

Lucian's brow went up. Naomi was once again clinging to his arm.

"You do?" Lucian said. "Then don't waste my time."

The attendant bowed again. "Of course, sir. Of course."

I just stared, wondering what was going on.

The sales attendant turned to us with an apologetic air. "I'm sorry but I'll have to ask you to leave."

"What?" Theron said.

Naomi visibly brightened.

The attendant flushed. "While Prince Lucian is shopping, no one can be here."

"That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!" I cried. "Who empties a store out because they want to do their shopping? This whole place is big enough for ten times the number of people already here."

"I'm sorry but it's the store's policy," the attendant insisted. "Perhaps you can come back some other time. Tomorrow..."

"No time like the present," Theron said. "The lady and I are still shopping. We don't intend to leave until we've finished which is usually the way it's done."

"Sir-"

Theron drew himself up to his full height. "Do you know who I am?"

The attendant shot a pleading look at Lucian who was glaring at her. She seemed to come to a sudden decision.

"I have my orders," she said. Her voice had taken on a rough edge. "If you don't leave now, I'm afraid I'll have to ask the security to show you out."

"You would throw me out?" Theron said. "You-"

"It's okay," I told him. "There's no point in dragging this out. Let's just go."

Theron looked like he would love nothing better than to drag this out. I squeezed his shoulder. "Please."

"Fine," he said reluctantly.

I hurried back into the changing rooms before Theron changed his mind, took off the dress and dumped it on the floor on my way out with Theron.

But not before sending Lucian a glare that told him just what I thought of him.
