Chapter 259

WILLA

But then the sadness won. A sob slipped past my lips. I stumbled over to the door, shoved Naomi who was in the way aside.

As I raced down the corridor, half blinded with tears, I heard Naomi say for what was clearly Lucian's benefit, "Now what the heck is the matter with her?"

Her tone of surprise could almost have fooled me.

I sat at the foot on the edge of the flowerbed outside, crying my eyes out for a long time. My face felt hot and I knew without looking that my eyes were swollen.

With nowhere to go and no one to talk to, I called Theron. The phone rang twice. He didn't pick up.

He sent me text just when I was about to call the third time.

Sorry Willa, it read. I'll call you later. I'm quite busy at the moment.

The tears, which had subsided a bit, started up again. A couple fell on the screen of my phone, leaving rainbow coloured streaks on it. I wiped it off and remembered Sienna.

Apart from Theron, she seemed to be the only decent person in this school. I called her. She didn't pick up.

I couldn't even go to her room to check if she were around. Sylvia could be there and she would no doubt give me hell about Theron. Tonight, I couldn't take any more.

Outside, underneath a tree with thick overhanging branches was a bench where students usually sat. No one was there now.

I shuffled over, dropped into it. I hid my face in my hands and let the tears flow.

I was sad, miserable. All alone with no one to talk to. At that point I wished so bad I was home, surrounded with people who loved me.

How I hated this place!

**********

I came awake with a start and that feeling you got when there was danger lurking around somewhere. The first thing I was conscious of was the darkness.

The moon, so bright when I had come outside, was now hidden behind dark clouds in a starless sky. It was so quiet I could hear the slightly rasping sound my breath made in my throat.

I stood up, registered the fact that my body was sore and stiff. While crying I must have fallen asleep for what had to be hours.

The hairs on the back of my neck started to prickle. I started to hurry back to my room.

A hand, strong and warm, gripped around arm and held on. My heart stopped.

I tried to jerk my arm back. Whoever was holding me was horribly strong. The grip didn't loosen even a little.

I opened my mouth to scream a second too late. Another hand, smelling faintly of soap, clamped over my mouth. I couldn't make a sound.

"You're coming with me," said a low voice in my ear.

It was a boy's voice.

He dragged me away from the building, into the thick bushes growing not too far away. There was a single tree growing there. My face and then my body was pressed against it's rough bark.

I struggled but couldn't free my arm. A dart of pain shot through my spine as the boy punched me in the small of my back. I gasped and in that moment when I tried to absorb the pain, he twisted my hands behind my back.

"Steady now,," he whispered in my ear. "Just stay still and it will be all over soon."

I opened my mouth as wide as I could, which wasn't much but enough to bite down on his finger.

"Fucking bitch!" the boy whisper-screamed as he jerked back his hand.

I drew air into my lungs to scream. A thick wad of cloth was jammed so far into my throat I started to gag.

I felt hurt blurts of breath on my shoulder as he said pressed himself against me and said, "Now where were we?"

It was then I noticed something horrible. Something hot and hard was pressing against my bottom.

I was not about to be robbed. This boy was going to do something much worse to me.

The world went gray for a moment. When I came to, the boy was trying to yank my jeans down. I twisted, tried to ram my head into his face.

It was like trying to fight a brick wall. He was panting harder now. In excitement.

"Hold steady, bitch," he whispered.

He gave one savage yank and my jeans were hanging over my hips. Louder than the chirping of crickets, I heard the sound of his zipper slide open.

And then suddenly he was gone. I heard a muffled thud as I spun around and saw the boy wriggling weakly in the dirt and clutching his side.

Another figure was standing above him. It was Lucian.
