Chapter 093

HANNAH

"What's wrong?"

Willa had taken one look at my face and known something was up. She said a quick goodbye to the girl from her class who she had been chatting with.

"I overheard something," I said once she was walking beside me. “Something that is quite juicy and interesting.”

There was an empty classroom almost right in front of us. I pulled Willa in and looked around to confirm there were no lurkers there. I told her about the dream and my talk with Julia.

Willa's eyes widened some more at the part where Julia had spoken to me.

"She as good as admitted it," she hissed. "Asher must have broken the bond, hoping that it would kill you. Every time they try to kill you, it shocks me. Just imagine how low they're willing to go. Thank the goddess, you're the white wolf or else."

"I would be dead by now. Yeah. I know. It just pisses me off that Julia and I guess Dawson are trying to cover up wherever Asher is by spreading lies. They think they can get away with everything. Imagine trying to kill me, and when it backfired, they created a rumor to paint Asher as a good person.”

"I wonder how long they plan on doing that," Willa said. "Wish everyone could know how much of an asshole their future Alpha is. Asher and his father are the worst thing to happen to this territory.”

I grinned.

If there was one thing I liked about Willa, it was how much our minds were in sync.

"We may not be able to let everyone know who Asher really is... yet. but I've got the perfect plan to expose Julia's stupid lies. Want to hear it?"

Willa dumped her armful of books on a desk. "Of course!"

I leaned in close and whispered the plan into Willa's ears. When I was done, her eyes were shining with excitement. I knew she already approved the idea by the mischievous look on her face.

"It's not just perfect; it's absolutely brilliant!" she gushed. “We should start it right now.”

"Okay then." I scooped up her books. "Let's activate the first phase of the plan. Location, library!"

Most of the students were in between classes, so the library was more occupied than usual when we arrived. Groups of students, girls especially, sat around with books open in front of them.

A lot of them were not really reading. They were whispering, gossiping, and trading secrets. Mrs. Price's frequent glares in their direction and her muttered warnings did little to stop them.

Will nudged my arm, looked around meaningfully, and grinned. I smiled back.

I knew what she was thinking. The library was the place in the school where the juiciest gossip was heard and passed. That was why we had chosen it. Gossiping in the library was an extreme sport if you didn’t want anyone to pick up your secrets, but Willa and I wanted the opposite of that. We wanted everyone to pick up what we were about to discuss.

Willa and I picked a section of the library as far from the librarian as possible. It was a spot where a lot of the recommended school textbooks were kept. That meant students were always coming around to take textbooks there.

We took a couple of books and sat opposite each other.

"Make sure there's no one around, Willa," I said in a not so quiet voice. "I want to tell you something about Asher."

"Okay," Willa replied, making a show of slowly getting out of her chair and walking over to two shelves that hid us from view.

I leaned back in my chair and craned my neck so I could see between the gaps between the shelves.

I saw it at the same time that Willa did—a flash of skirts.

Someone had heard us and then hurried away. Whoever it was would definitely be back to eavesdrop. And that was our cue to start our plan.

"No one there," Willa said as she resumed her seat. “What did you want to tell me?”

I hesitated, waiting for the girl to return. And just like I guessed, she did. This time, she came with another friend, ready to pick whatever we said.

"Did you notice he's not in school today?" I asked, pretending to look around for eavesdroppers.

"Yes," Willa replied. "I heard Julia saying that he had to help out his father with some pack issues."

"That's not true. I heard from someone very reliable that he's sick—so sick he could even die. His wolf is too weak to protect him."

Willa made the expected sounds of surprise. I grinned and kicked her under the table so she wouldn't overdo it.

"But how is that possible?" she said. "Asher has an Alpha wolf. Everyone knows an Alpha wolf is the strongest. Most Alphas don’t get sick because of that, so how could Asher be sick?”

"That is if he has an Alpha wolf," I stressed.

Willa gasped. "What do you mean? Are you implying that.."

"Yes." I sunk my voice into a whisper still loud enough for our eavesdropper to hear. "I won't be shocked if Asher isn't really the Alpha's son. He must not have the Alpha wolf for him to fall so ill. Maybe his mother had an affair with another man.”

There was the soft thud of books hitting the floor. Out of the corner of my eyes, from the direction of the opposite shelves, I saw two girls sprinting away.

"Two of them were listening," I mouthed to Willa.

We grinned. The first phase of our plan had just been activated.
