Chapter 197

HANNAH

Willa snatched her bedside alarm clock. "It's 7 am on a Saturday morning."

"Uh-huh, and you have this rat in your room." I spat. "Even after our talk?"

For the first time, Devin showed signs of annoyance. He sat up a little straighter, shoulders flaring defensively. "Rat? Wait a minute. Are you referring to me?"

I pointedly looked around the room. "Of course I am. Or do you see any other intruder in this room?"

"Hannah!" Willa said, a warning more in her voice.

I ignored her.

Pale roses bloomed on Devin's cheeks. A whine crept into his voice. "I told you before. Willa asked me-"

"Oh save it! Tell that to someone who cares."

Willa glanced anxiously again at the alarm clock she was gripping tightly.

"I'm sorry Devin," she said. "You have to go now before my brothers find out you spent the night here."

Devin nodded and ran around to grab his clothes. I sort of wished he would stay a little longer so one of my mates could find him here and perhaps rearrange his face a little bit.

He yanked on his shirt and trousers, gave Willa a kiss full on the mouth and hurried out of the room, still buttoning up his shirt. He was smirking at me as he went.

I gaped at his retreating back. I couldn't believe it!

How on earth had this so-called relationship progressed so damn quickly?

Willa was blushing, rubbing absently on the spot where Devin had kissed her.

"I can explain," she said.

"Oh, you'd better! Because I'm lost here."

She thought for a moment. "Devin and I just... clicked. Five minutes into a conversation with him at the pitch and I knew it wasn't just a mere crush. You know that feeling you get like you've known a stranger all your life."

"I don't."

Willa flapped her hands helplessly as she struggled to put her thoughts into words. "It's hard to explain but I'll tell you this. Devin's my kind of person."

"Really? So because Devin is your kind of-" My index and middle fingers made quotation marks in the air. "person, you just decided to fuck him barely a day after you met him."

Willa gasped.

"I did not!"

"It sure looked like you did," I said dryly.

"Why would you even think that?"

"I find a guy here who obviously spent the night and was practically naked in your bed. What else was I supposed to think?"

"We didn't have sex," she said, her voice low, brows creased into a frown. "We just did basic stuff-"

"Basic stuff."

I wasn't sure I believed Willa on this one. Maybe she was suddenly realizing she had made a mistake inviting Devin into her bed.

And let's face it, Devin didn't look like a guy who would just stop at second base. He would want to go all the way.

More colour flooded her cheeks. "Kissing, touching, more kissing... Do you need me to paint you a picture?"

"Goddess no!" I shuddered. "Spare me the details. I don't want to imagine that jerk naked."

She picked at a loose thread on the bedsheets and frowned. "Why are you scolding me anyway like you're my mum? You're not! I'm not a child anymore. I can do whatever I want."

I sighed. My tone softened.

"I'm just looking out for you, Willa" I explained. "I can spot players with my eyes closed. I'll tell you for free that Devin's one. I thought this was just going to be a fling. If I knew you would get this serious about him... Maybe I should never have agreed to introduce you to him."

"You're wrong about Devin, you know."

"I'm not. Look at him, Willa. Really look. He's got all the typical signs of a playboy; arrogance, girls buzzing around him like bees and he seeming to love the attention. He hasn't even taken you out on a date yet, has he? Of course, he hasn't. Guys like him don't usually waste time on asking a girl out properly if they can help it. He's just ready to jump into your bed the first chance he gets."

"He can't help it if he's rich, good looking and famous, can he? All those things don't make him a player. Besides he even got me a gift."

She pointed to her makeup table. Sitting on it was a lamp, blue and delicate looking, casting a warm yellow light. Obviously it was quite expensive.

Willa's smile returned. She was rubbing at that spot again. I was sure she wasn't even aware she was doing it.

"It's pretty, isn't it?" she murmured as she looked at the lamp fondly. "He said the blue reminded him of the colour of my eyes."

I rolled mine at the ceiling, and plumped on the bed beside her.

"Whatever," I said. "We have to talk about something very important."
