Chapter 266

WILLA

"Arrogant son of a bitch!"

Theron punctuated every word by slamming his fist into his palm.

The doorman took a look at Theron's face and hurriedly threw the door open.

"Willa, you should have let me handle it," Theron said. "We shouldn't have left. As for the so called security-" He bared his teeth. "I would have liked to see them actually try to throw me out. Worst case scenario, I wouldn't have bought anything but then neither would Lucian and Naomi."

"It wouldn't have been worth it, trust me." I soothed. "We would have just ended up wasting a lot it time there and achieving nothing at the end."

"If I had messed up that asshole's day the way he has messed up mine, it wouldn't have been for nothing."

"It doesn't matter," I said quickly.

Theron turned to me quickly. Behind us other shoppers, a lot of them angry by the looks on their faces, were exiting the store.

"But it does," Theron said. "It matters a lot. Much more than you think. Lucian is using this whole situation as a powerplay. He won't stop. He'll only find ways to... rub his position in our faces. I really need to put him in his place before all this gets out of hand."

"No. You don't need to do anything," I insisted. "Can't you see? That's exactly wants from you... from us. A reaction that will tell him he's getting under our skin..." I trailed off, remembering the way he had reacted when Theron had touched me at the boutique. "...the way we're getting under his. Don't give him that satisfaction. Okay, Theron?"

Theron shrugged. "Okay. Fine. I won't press this one."

"Or any other one," I said.

Theron said nothing. I decided not to insist. For now it was enough we weren't back at the mall making a scene.

"Where else do we go from here?" I asked Theron. "You know this area much better than I do."

Theron reluctantly told me the boutique just across the street, the one Naomi had been talking about, was pretty good.

Theron was right. At the end of two hours, I had lots of clothes I liked. Theron insisted on paying for them all.

"I told you it was my treat and I meant it," he said.

We spent a couple of minutes arguing the point then I threw my hands up in the air in surrender.

"Okay. Okay," I said. "You win."

He tipped me a wink. "You know I always do."

While the store's attendants had helped us carry my purchases into the car, I told him I owed him something too.

"I need to properly thank you for all this," I said. "I'll buy you some ice-cream. How about that?"

Theron chuckled. I laughed.

"Ice- cream?" Theron said. "Seriously Willa? I don't get satisfaction from normal food but I particularly detest ice-cream."

I touched his cold, pale skin. "Would have thought you'd like it with it being cold and all."

"Not one bit, Willa. Not one bit."

Laughing, we headed to the parking lot to Theron's car.

Theron stopped for a moment then moved toward quickly. He shook his fists in the air.

"What the bloody hell!" he cursed. "You see what I told you about this guy, Willa. You see?"

Lucian had parked his car next to Theron's. And when I said next, I meant both cars were practically touching.

One of Theron's side mirrors had even been bent out of shape although from what I could see, it wasn't broken. Thank goodness.

But there was no way Theron would be able move his car without bumping into Lucian's.

I couldn't believe it! From the looks of it, Lucian had left Naomi at the other boutique and come all the way down here just to provoke Theron and me too.

Theron rapped sharply on the hood of Lucian's sports car. Lucian took his sweet time winding down the glass.

"Yes?" he said coolly as if he had not just parked his car within scratching distance of Theron's.

Theron said, "Is there a reason you being more petty than usual?"

Lucian's eyes met mine, dismissed me. "And am I supposed to know what you are talking about?"

"You knew this was my car but out of all the spaces in this huge parking lot, you chose to park here. Come to think of it, at a place that turns it's customers away when you come to shop, don't they have like a reserved parking space for you?" Theron shook his head. "You really are petty and low, Lucian."

Just as I had expected, Lucian didn't look the least bit angry, just satisfied that he had successfully upset Theron.

Lucian said, "What can I say? I suppose those without any real titles would see what I did as petty. But every true prince like yours truly, gets treated like one. It's the way of the world, Lucian. If you want me to dumb all I just said down for you, I'll tell you in one sentence. I can park wherever I damn well want!"

Theron tensed. "You little-"

"Theron!" I called. "Look at me." I saw him visibly struggle but eventually he straightened and faced me. "Don't waste your breath on him. Ignore him. He's not worth it."

Now I had clearly gotten Lucian's attention but I didn't even give him a glance. I just focused on Theron.

"Okay," Theron whispered. More loudly he said, "Okay. I'll listen to my girlfriend because I actually do love her."

I could feel Lucian tense up more at the mention of the word love.

I was about to suggest to Theron that he call one of the store's security guards to handle the parking situation when he did something completely unexpected.

One moment I was standing by his side. The next he had pulled me into his arms and was kissing me.

Shock made me completely freeze up. Theron did not leg go. When he finally pulled back, I saw Lucian's face was as dark as a thundercloud.

Lucian turned on the ignition. His tyres squealed as he sped off, somehow managing not to peel the paint off Theron's car in the process. I smelled burning rubber.

Hardly able to believe what had just happened, I touched my lips. It was moist and a little swollen from Theron's kiss.

"What- what did you do?" I stammered. "Why did you kiss me?"

Theron raised one shoulder in a shrug. "I seized the moment. I just wanted to make Lucian jealous."

To that, I had nothing to say.

*********

I had just put the last of my new clothes in my closet when I hear Naomi who I was pretended not to notice say, "You will leave this room."

"Did you hear me?" she shouted when I didn't answer.

I turned around, leaned against the closet door.

"Were you talking to me?" I asked.

"Who else do you see here, dumbo? You can't stay here anymore. Find another place. Pack your things and get the hell out."

"And who exactly are you to give that order. The dean? Who? This isn't the cheerleading squad where you get to call the shots."

"Don't you-"

"This room was assigned to me by the school and by the laws of the school, I have the same rights as you here. If you can't stand being in the same room with me, then be my guest and move out. I promise not to cry."

Naomi sprang to her feet. She kicked bottles of nail polish out of her way.

"Watch it, girl," she hissed. "Remember what I did to you at the try-outs? There's much more where that came from. You're acting all tough now but when I really turn up the heat, you won't be able to stand it."

"Turn on the heat? You mean like tearing up my clothes like a little kid throwing tantrums? I knew you three did it. But then they're just clothes. I can always get more. Among those clothes you ripped, there was a sweater my father gifted me. That is something I can never replace. That is something I will always remember. I promise you. One way or another you, Lisa and Carmen will get what's coming to you."

Naomi barked out a laugh. "Oh really? And what are you going to do then? Tear up our own clothes as revenge? I'll like to see you fucking try. You would be out of Worchmount so fast your head will spin."

"Cross my path one more time and you'll damn well find out what I will do," I shot back.

"Promises. Promises," she scoffed. "I was expecting you would threaten me with something more dramatic. But then you're really just a helpless little mouse, aren't you? Just leave this room, Willa. It's an insult to us to have someone like you breathing the same air we do. As if it's not bad enough thar we go to the same school already!" She started to walk back to her bed then stopped. "Oh. Here's an idea. Why don't you go back to wherever you slept last night when you were blubbering over your torn rags? I'm sure whoever it was would be willing to take vermin like you in again."

I let a cold smile touch my lips. If she knew I had spent the night at Lucian's, I wondered what she would do. Loose her mind probably. Or maybe pitch a fit.

"I'm pretty sure you wouldn't me to go back there," I said.
