Chapter 264
WILLA
Waiting outside the door to my room was the last person I wanted to see. I looked back and thought of going back, wandering around campus until he got tired and left. But then I thought why the hell would I let him drive me out of my own room?
Theron hadn't seen me yet. He was staring up at the ceiling, lost in thought.
Still keeping my eye on him, I fished my keys out of my backpack as I approached.
Just a quick move past him and I would get the door open, get inside then slam it in his face and so avoid a totally unwanted conversation.
I had gotten close enough to open the door when his eyes finally saw me. I felt a spurt of anger when I noticed how pleased he seemed to be to see me.
"Willa-" he began.
"Go away, Theron," I said. "I've told you that many times and I mean it!"
I turned my back on him, started to put the key in the lock. Theron reached over, put his palm over it. I whirled around.
"What are you doing?" I asked sharply.
"Getting you to listen to me for more than five seconds."
"I won't if I don't want to-"
"I've been calling, texting a thousand times a minute. You won't respond to any of my messages."
"And what makes you think I'm going to listen to you now? Let me go, Theron. I-"
I broke off when a girl from the next room came out. She glanced at Theron and I curiously. I thought she moved away really slowly for someone who looked like she was going to class.
I didn't say another word until she was completely out of earshot. No point in giving anyone more material for gossip.
"Theron," I resumed. "I-"
"I'm sorry. I fucked up. Big time. I knew it the moment I did it. It's something I regret deeply, something I wish I could take back."
"But you can't," I pointed out. "What's done is done. You've already hooked up with Sylvia. I can't tell you who to be with, so good luck with her. Can I please get into my room now?
Theron let out a startled laugh. "Wait. You think Sylvia and I are back together? That's crazy. I haven't taken her back. I just got caught up in the moment, that's all."
I found that hard to believe. Sylvia was the girl he was willing to go so far to make her jealous. His feelings for her had to be pretty strong.
"You don't have to pretend with me," I told him. "Your part of the plan has worked out so well. Your girlfriend got jealous. She wants to get back with you. You can be with her really. I don't mind. I'll figure out what to do next myself. After all I was surviving before you came along."
"No," he insisted. "I made a promise to you, Willa and I intend to keep it. Here's an idea... About your clothes I've been thinking about a way to remedy that. How about I take you shopping to buy some more? My treat. To make up for not being there when you needed me most. I know a good place around here where we can get stuff you would like. What do you say?"
"No. Absolutely not. I may not be whatever you people call high ranking here, but I've got my own money. Lots of it. I don't need your charity!"
Theron threw his hand in the air. "Okay. Okay. When we get there, we'll sort out who is to pay for what. Just say you'll come with me." One pale hand went over his heart. "I promise and swear that I'm not going to hook up with Sylvia or anyone else until our plan has worked. Now come on Willa, forgive me already. You know you can't keep a grudge for long."
"Fine," I huffed. Theron chuckled and stepped away from the door. "Let me change into something else and then we can go."
************
The couch on the outer room was rather comfy, I thought as I tried on the dress. Maybe the owners of the place had deliberately made them that way so husbands and boyfriends wouldn't get too restless while waiting for their women to try clothes on.
Not that Theron actually seemed to mind though. We had been at the boutique for over an hour and he didn't seem restless at all.
As I opened the curtains of the changing room, Theron sat up straight. The boutique's sales attendant started foward. I came out with my hands on my hips.
I was wearing a dark blue sleeveless dress that fell just past my knees.
