Chapter 301

WILLA

"No..." I admitted. "But that doesn't mean anything. Lucian has changed so much these last few days. He's sweet... attentive. He's not hiding the fact that we're together anymore. What else does that show but the fact that he likes me?"
Theron shook his head.
"You're wrong," he said, pursing his lips. "Him being sweet and attentive to you changes nothing. You're just setting yourself up to get hurt."
"I think you're wrong," I huffed.
"Doesn't matter if you agree with me or not. It's the truth. First off I'm a guy and I know how these things work. Second I've known Lucian longer than you have. He is a player. Do you have the slightest idea of how many hearts he's broken at Worchmount alone? How many girls thought they meant something to him just because he gave them a little attention? I'll hate to see you get hurt, Willa. Until Lucian asks you out, don't be so sure of him."

*************
A half hour later Theron was gone. I wished all he had told me had gone with him.
He had left me with a whole lot of doubts. Much more than I had left the camp with this morning.
A part of me felt that Theron had a point. Hadn't I been asking myself for the last couple of days whether Lucian and I were an actual couple now?
Another small hopeful part kept insisting that things between Lucian and I had changed. He wouldn't be all over me if he wasn't at least considering going into a relationship with me.
The sound of my phone ringing startled me out of my thoughts. I glanced at the phone then snatched it up.
It was Hannah calling. I felt a smile start to curve my lips. For a little while at least, I was going to forget about Theron and Lucian.
"I keep trying to call you," was the first thing Hannah said the moment I picked the call. "And then I remember that you probably don't have network reception out there."
"Good thing I remembered when you were supposed to be back from camp," Cade said in the background.
Then I heard Chase say, "Hey. Is that Willa on the phone?"
Hannah's voice moved away from the phone's mouthpiece a little. "Where did you two cone from?" she asked my brothers. I grinned. I missed my overprotective chaotic brothers so much. "Wait. Hold on."
There was a loud click as Hannah put the call on speakerphone.
"Hey, squirt," Jace said with a laugh. "You back from camp yet?"
I laughed. "I just got back. Was about to unpack my things in fact."
Hannah said, "Willa, how are you?" at the same time Cade said, "Hope no one gave you any trouble out there."
I heard Hannah sigh. "It's my phone I'm making this call with, remember? I'm supposed to talk to her first. You boys should wait your turn."
Suddenly Hannah squealed and giggled. I grinned.
"Gotcha!" Chase cried.
There was some commotion in the background. Another giggle. I suddenly wished I was back there at Icestone with them.
I sure could do with a bit of cheering up.
Cade's voice sounded closer as he asked, "Seriously, sis, I hope no one picked on you there."
He sounded about ready to take someone apart if I so much as said the word.
"No. Not at all," I replied, wondering what he would say if I told him I had almost been drowned.
I wouldn't tell him though. Or any of them else they would all be storming Worchmount faster than I could blink. Whatever I was going through here, I was going to deal with it myself.
"They didn't give you too much to do?" Cade said. "You're like a princess here, remember? No one gets to mess with you."
"Oh sweetheart. Stop with the big brother act already," Hannah said. I could picture her rolling her eyes at him. "Willa's a big girl now. I'm sure she can take care of herself. Right, Willa?"
All four immediately fell silent, waiting for my reply.
"Sure," I said and I actually managed to sound cheerful "Absolutely."
"Really though how did the camping trip go? I think it was somewhere near..."
"Hanbok pack," I said. "The trip was nice actually. I mingled with the others and learnt a lot about plants."
"Plants," Chase echoed with a scoff.
"Now tell me everything you did," Hannah said eagerly. "From the very first day you got there. Remember you promised that through you, it would be like I was in Worchmount myself."
I laughed and said I remembered my promise, of course.
With a lot of interruptions from my brothers, I told Hannah all about the fun parts of my trip.
