Chapter 209
HANNAH
He was a real creep and unfortunately, Willa had fallen for it.
"He wants me to still be his girlfriend," Willa sobbed. "He says we have to continue the relationship or he'll show people the photos."
Of course he did, the fucking bastard.
"I'll sort this out," I said.
Willa's head snapped up. "How?"
"How do you think?"
Her eyes widened as understanding dawned. "No. Oh no, Hannah. You can't tell them about it. You can't."
"Watch me," I said and stormed out of the room.
Willa followed me all the way to Jace's class, begging and telling me that we could find another way to resolve the issue if I would only stop and listen for a second.
I didn't. I knew there was only one language Devin would understand and my mates could speak it really loud.
Jace's face lit up with a smile of welcome as I walked in on him, talking with a group of boys.
"We need to talk. Now," I told him. "Get your brothers."
Puzzled, he nodded. Willa and I waited in the corridor where we were soon joined by the three of them.
"What's up?" Cade said, looking from one to the other of us.
Willa turned her face away.
I told my mates everything Willa had told me. Their faces grew angrier with every word out of my mouth. By the time I had finished, they were livid.
"Where is he?" Cade asked, his lips barely moving as he asked the question.
"I passed him in the corridor a few minutes ago," Chase replied.
The brothers exchanged a look. As one they moved with Chase slightly on the lead. Devin was getting stuff out of his locker. He was surrounded by a flock of giggling girls as usual.
Cade poked him in the shoulder. He turned, surprise flickering across his face.
"What-" he began.
"We need to talk," Cade said.
"Look, I'm busy-"
Cade cut in. "Now!"
Perhaps the sight of his buddy Jace reassured him because he shrugged, and dusted an invisible speck of dirt from his jacket. He didn't see Willa who was hiding behind me.
"I'll catch you later, ladies," he said. "Got to talk with the boys."
With my mates on either side of him, they marched him to the door. Willa and I trailed behind.
I could tell when Devin started becoming uneasy. He asked my mates a question. None of them answered.
He suddenly stiffened and tried to bolt.
Cade grabbed his elbow. "Keep walking or you'll construct a few new sets of elbows."
Devin tried to turn his head. Cade pulled him along. I knew what he was looking for, what he was hoping for. Teachers.
There were none in sight. Even if there were, I really doubted my mates would stop now. When we got outside, Devin really began to struggle.
Chase and Cade dragged him over to the empty parking lot, to a spot between two jeeps then left him. I moved close enough to watch. Willa hung back.
"What the hell is the meaning of this?" Devin asked angrily. For an instant guilt flashed in his eyes when he spotted me and looked beyond me at Willa. "Why did you bring me he-"
Jace struck him in the mouth. The force of the blow made Devin stagger back a couple of steps. Slowly he brought his hand upward to touch his nose. His fingers came back bloody.
The look of surprise on his face would have been funny under other circumstances.
Devin almost conversationally, "You hit me. I'm- I'm bleeding."
"Not enough," Chase said and kicked him in the shin, driving Devin to his knees. "Not nearly enough, you blackmailing son of a bitch."
A fist thudded into the side of his head.
"You can't! You can't!" Devin shrieked. "Somebody help!"
Cade slammed a fist into his cheek, driving his cries for help back into his throat. And then the blows rained down on Devin so fast I couldn't tell who was doing the hitting.
Finally, Devin lay on the paved floor, shivering and crying and begging for them to stop. "Please stop."
His bruised and bleeding face looked like something the cat dragged in. Cade squatted beside him.
"Where are the fucking videos you have of my sister?" he asked quietly.
Devin pointed one twisted finger at his pocket. Cade unlocked his phone with his face ID.
"Delete all of them," Chase barked. "In fact delete your whole fucking gallery."
Crying and blubbering, Devin did as he asked.
"Are there any more? Any backups?" I asked, moving closer.
Devin shook his head, sending droplets of tears and snot flying.
"No. I swear there isn't," he blubbered.
"Good." Chase patted and then suddenly slapped his cheek, sending his head rocking to the side. "If you ever come near Willa again... we'll kill you."
