Chapter 169

HANNAH

I opened the door of my room, first thing in the morning after taking a cold shower, with the intention of seeing of Willa was up yet. I froze.

Right outside stood Sophie, her hand raised to knock. She was smiling at me.

"Hello Hannah," she said, lowering her hand "Hope you had a good night's sleep."

My fingers tightened around the door knob. I wanted to slam the door in her face but I wouldn't. There was no way I was going to cower in my room and alter my plans for the morning because of her.

I stepped to the side. My shoulder bumped against hers, pushing her slightly off balance as I walked past.

"Don't run away," she called after me. "I just want a little chat with you. That's all."

I looked down at my feet.

Left foot. Right foot. Left foot, I chanted in my head. Keep moving, Hannah. Ignore her.

I heard Sophie's approaching footsteps. She got closer until I could literally feel her breathing down my neck. I stopped.

"Stop following me," I warned.

"Or what?" she said, flipping her hair over her shoulder.

Somehow she had still managed to dress like she was going out even though the house was barely stirring at this hour. Of course I knew for whose benefits she was putting on those really short shorts for- Cade.

I didn't dignify her with an answer. I kept walking. She waited until I had taken several steps forward before following me. Again.

"I know what your problem is," she went on. "You're pissed that he's taking my side, aren't you?"

Again, I stopped. She did too.

"This is like a game to you, isn't it?" I said.

"Yes," she chirped. "I can't remember the last time I had so much fucking fun. Ha! Look at your face. You didn't answer my question though. Does it bother you that Cade and I share a connection you will never have? Is that why you're so grumpy?" She thrust her head forward and grinned. "Are you going to cry?"

"Soon Cade will see you for who you really are," I said quietly.

She raised one perfectly plucked eyebrow. "Oh. And what is that?"

"A two faced bitch, a liar and a pretender."

Sophie laughed. "I'm sorry, but you're stupid if you think your pathetic attempts at insulting me are going to get me angry. And as for my two faced personality, who's going to tell Case about it. You?" She wound a lock of her hair around her finger, batted her lashes. "Are you going to report me because I've been a naughty, naughty girl? Go on then if that's what you want to do. But let me save you the trouble and tell you right now that Cade won't believe you."

"Because you think you've wrapped him around your little finger?" I said with a sneer.

Her eyes widened as she shook her head. "Oh no dear. No. It's you who has made everything so easy for me. Maybe if you had been cool and calm about my being here, he would believe you. But now you're acting the part of the obsessed, possessive and very violent girlfriend, Cade will have a hard time believing whatever you say. He'll think you're saying it out of jealousy. In a way, he won't be wrong. See how you tightened the noose around your own neck? You're pushing Cade away and you didn't even notice."

"I see," I said coolly. "So is that your plan? To try to take Cade like he's some kind of toy?"

"My plan is to take back what's mine! You are not worthy of Cade. You will never be no matter how hard you try."

"And yet he's with me. He chose me, not you."

"No, he didn't," she retorted. "He was just temporarily blinded by your so called abilities. All you have going for you is your power as the white wolf. Without that, you're nothing, just an ugly, miserable Omega whose place isn't anywhere near an Alpha's house."

"Careful now, Sophie," I warned. "Don't go against me. You will find that really bad things happen to people who go against me. I could give you a list but you can do your research."

"Is that supposed to be a threat?"

"It's not a threat if it's a fact," I pointed out.

"I see. Oh and by the way, do you want to hear what Cade said about you when he came to my room again?"

"Save your lies, Sophie. I'm not interested in hearing them."

"Why?" She asked, her eyes dancing with amusement. "Scared that you might also hear the truth? Like how Cade said you were out of control, irritational and a danger to everyone around you."
