Chapter 166
HANNAH
I moved impatiently. "Oh cut out the bullshit! I know your game. You came because of Chase, Jace... and Cade." It made me a little happy to see that stupid smile of hers slowly fade. "Well let me tell you something, Sophie. I'm mated to them already. All three of them. Your attempts to get back into their lives will be useless. So go home already."
Sophie's smile reappeared only now it was cold and mocking. I had the feeling I was now about to meet the real Sophie behind the mask. The next words out of her mouth confirmed that.
"You seem so sure of your mates," she said slowly. "If you all love each other so much, then why did Cade come to me last night?'
I almost lost my cool but controlled myself in time.
"You're lying!" I said.
Sophie laughed softly. "Am I? I wish I was though. Believe it or not, Cade came to my room when I'm sure you all were asleep. He said he missed me and he really missed the sex." Her eyes drifted closed. "Oh... the sex. Cade sure knows how to make love to a woman, where to put his tongue. Just exactly how to slide in his co-"
I slapped her. So hard my fingers stung. Sophie's eyes flew open. Her mouth hung open in shock. She pressed her palm to reddening cheek.
"You slapped-" she began.
I grabbed her hair and she screamed.
"And that's just the beginning, bitch," I snarled.
I pulled on her hair, pushed her. She stumbled, almost fell. I closed in on her again and was raising my fist when my my mates and Willa came running.
Sophie's whimpers suddenly changed to sobs. Loud ones. Tears started flowing down her cheeks faster than I could blink.
"Help!" she screeched, backing away.
"What is going on here?" Cade asked, glancing at Sophie but reaching for me.
I avoided his touch.
"Sophie. What's wrong?" Chase said.
"It's Hannah," Sophie wailed. "I came to talk to her and then- and then-" Her lips trembled. "She attacked me."
"You expect us to believe Hannah attacked you unprovoked?" Willa said harshly.
I could only stare at Sophie, marvelling at her lies.
"Attacked you?" Jace said, looking from me to Sophie and back again.
Sophie nodded, spilling tears on to the floor. "She asked me what I was doing here at the pack. I told her I had really come to support Ice Stone. Next thing I knew I was on the floor. I barely managed to get back up in time to scream for help. She used her powers on me."
"Oh shut up, you lying bitch!" I swore. "If I had really used my power on you, you would be dead by now."
Sophie sucked in a breath and sobbed louder.
"Calm down. Both of you. Calm down," Cade said. "Sophie. Tell me the truth. What did you say to Hannah to annoy her?"
She looked up at Cade with tears brimming in her eyes. "I swear I didn't say anything wrong. I was just trying to be friendly."
Cade regarded her for a moment later then nodded.
"Is what she said true?" he asked me.
There was no way in hell I was answering that. He knew me better than anyone else. Why would he even think for one moment that I had attacked Sophie for no reason?
I glowered at Cade now, silently daring him to accuse me. The silence lengthened. Sophie's sobs were an irritating background noise. Why hadn't they come just a few seconds later? By then I would have really given Sophie something to cry about.
As though sensing the flow of my thoughts, Jace stepped forward, placed a restraining hand on my arm.
"I think you should go to your room, Sophie," Jace said quietly. "Your presence is making everyone very uncomfortable."
Sophie's face showed her surprise but it was only for a moment. She had expected to be made a fuss off instead she was being given the brush off. The next moment, the sad mask was back in place.
"I- I'll go," she said in between hitching breaths but even that didn't get her anywhere.
With slumped shoulders and an air of dejection, she shuffled off to her room. Her words about Cade kept replaying in my head.
Willa slipped an arm through mine.
"Come on, Hannah. Let's go," she said.
I allowed her to lead me away. Cade, Chase and Cade came together and started talking in whispers.
"I think that Sophie girl is nothing but trouble," Willa said when we were outside earshot of her brothers.
"Tell me something I don't know," I said bitterly.
"What are you going to do about her?"
"I need to get her out of the pack immediately," I said, fuming.
