Chapter 059
HANNAH
"I have to talk to him," I insisted. "It won't take time. He won't be able to hurt me."
"But-"
"Look I have to do this. I need to."
The Wallace's exchanged a look. Chase slowly let go of my hand. The moment I was free, I marched up to Asher's table. His mouth hanging open in surprise made him look rather stupid.
"I need to talk to you now. In private," I told him.
He looked around then pointed at himself. "Me?"
"Yes. You."
He hesitated, and shrugged. "Fine then. Lead the way."
As we walked away, Julia was nearly apoplectic with rage. I dug my nails into my palms to stop myself from going over there and shaking her until her damn teeth rattled. I stopped at the corridor leading out of the cafeteria. There were no students there.
"Tell me, how are you still alive?" Asher asked, giving me a once over.
"I recovered. You don't seem too happy to see me alive."
"You were poisoned. With wolfsbane! It's impossible that you're still breathing."
"Yet I am," I said dryly. "The doctor who treated me mentioned something about the wolfsbane being adulterated with some other substance so it couldn't kill me." I scoffed. "Your girlfriend is pathetic and dumb, you know that? She couldn't even manage to poison me properly. She had one job to do and she couldn't do it."
Asher, frowning, began to close the distance between us. It was his intimidating stance and I was ready for it.
"Well, screw all that. Since you're fine now, you will return to the pack to finish what we started. You're my property, remember?"
I threw my head back, laughed loud and long. "Now you are acting dumb, Asher. You must be blind if you haven't noticed my mother and I don't live in the pack anymore."
A growl escaped from between his clenched teeth. "You can't run away from me, bitch. It doesn't matter whatever hole you've decided to crawl into. I will find you. I will drag you back to where you're supposed to be. Now, if you know what's good for you, go get your stuff and carry my bags to class. Now!"
"Oh shut up, Asher. You don't scare me anymore. I didn't call you here for a conversation. I called you here to reject you."
Asher laughed in a startled kind of way.
I took in a deep breath, raised my right hand, palm up and said, "I, Hannah Baker, reject you, Asher Dawson as my mate. The bond between us shall be severed forever and our wolves separated."
Asher shook his head.
"Now I know that you're crazy," he said. "That poison must have touched your brain. It doesn't work that way. I am supposed to be the one rejecting you. You just recited bullshit because I won't accept the rejection." He tsked. "Shame. Even though you're book smart, you're a very stupid, stupid girl. And you're also my property."
I knew what he was about to do two seconds before he did it. As he made a grab at my boobs, I grabbed his hand. In two quick moves, I had him pinned against the wall.
"Wh- what the hell?" Asher shouted.
He struggled, and tried to push me off. I felt strength flow into my hands. I increased the pressure keeping his head pressed against the wall. I saw his eyes widen in surprise as he panted with the effort of trying to get free.
"Now listen and listen good, asshole," I hissed. "In three seconds, I'm going to break your arm if you don't accept my rejection. Do you understand?"
"You're crazy. I will never do that."
"Wrong answer." I grabbed his arm, slowly began to bend it backwards. "Your time starts now. One!"
"Get your fucking hands off me," he cried.
"Two!"
Beads of perspiration stood out on his forehead. His face was white with pain. His lips could barely form the word "N-no."
"Three!" I began to twist his arm, pulling it out of joint.
"Okay. Okay. Stop!"
I pulled him back, slammed him back against the wall.
"Say the words," I hissed. "Or I swear, I'll not only break your arm but your leg. Maybe even your head. How would you like that, huh? Say it!"
Now knowing resistance was futile, in a low, defeated voice he accepted my rejection.
"Good." I let him go, took a step back, dusted my hands off him.
Asher sagged against the wall. He held his abused arm to his side.
"How dare you?" he gasped. "How dare you?"
"There is nothing between us anymore, Asher."
"I'll- I'll get you for this," he threatened.
My lips curved into a mocking smile as I began to turn away. "No you won't. The next time you see me, I would have been marked by the triplets."
