Chapter 055

HANNAH

"I don't think his theory is true," I replied. “But it’s the only one we’ve got.”

"Well... I myself think that there is a possibility, a strong one, that it is true."

"What?" I blurted before I could stop myself. It was one thing for Chase to make assumptions about, but it was another for Alpha Wallace to actually believe I could be the white wolf.

"I assure you I have reasons for thinking that way," he continued. "You see, I was alive during the time of the last white wolf." The Alpha's eyes got a faraway look as he remembered details from that time long ago. "The last white wolf was... remarkable. She was very, very strong. Her transformation was just like yours. Same pure white hair." He refocused on me and saw me shaking my head. The corner of his lips curved into a knowing smile. "Maybe you think the moon goddess cannot choose you because of your Omega wolf, but Isolde Fairchild- that was her name- was wolfless. So you see, you already begin to tick all the boxes."

"Alpha," I breathed after some thought. "Even if I'm inclined to believe you now, it is known that every white wolf has a direct link to the moon goddess. That means they can hear her and interact with her. I can't do that."

"Of course you can't. Not yet, anyway. You must understand that interacting with the goddess will be a gradual process." He held up two fingers. "If you still have doubts, there are two ways we can verify if you are truly the white wolf."

"Shifting?" Chase suggested.

His father nodded.

"Yes. Shifting. As you know, no one's wolf can be white when they shift. If you shift and your wolf is white, you're the white wolf. Another way we can verify is if you can speak to the moon goddess. Speaking to her can occur in several ways, even through dreams."

All this was a little too much to take in. I couldn't believe I was actually sitting here, entertaining the possibility that I was the 'chosen one'.

"What will I do if I'm actually the white wolf and if the moon goddess has mistakenly picked me?"

"There is no such thing as a mistake regarding this. If you're chosen, it's because the moon goddess believes in you."

"But I can't even shift, so how is it possible for me to do anything?"

Again, Alpha Wallace had his answer ready. "Training will start soon. Your body will pick up. That being said, you should not be confined to your room anymore. However, your hair should be covered whenever you want to leave the pack so uncomfortable questions will not be asked. You understand?"

I nodded.

"I can dye your hair back to its natural colour,” Willa piped up, and all eyes in the room turned to her.

I smiled at her. "Thank you. That is a good idea. I would also like to resume school as soon as possible, or else my continued absence will be questioned.”

"While that is a good idea, you still need to rest a bit," Alpha Wallace said, looking at my mother.

Jace, Chase and Cade immediately expressed their support for the idea.

"I've already rested enough. I feel perfectly fine now."

"Oh no, honey," my mother shook her head. "You're not ready for school yet. You need to rest and regain your strength. You don’t know what Asher…”

"I'm ready, mum.” Silence fell across the room as I snapped. “I almost got killed because I couldn't speak for myself. I'm tired of that. I want to take charge of my life now. Whether I'm the white wolf or not, whether what's happening to me is good or bad, I know the moon goddess has given me another chance. It will be a shame if I go back to being a weakling and hiding in here. I don’t care what Asher is doing or planning to do.”

There was a long silence as everyone stared at me. I fought the urge to duck my head. Facing my fears was what I wanted. All I could think of was Julia’s face before she poisoned me. I wanted to hurt her so bad, and sleeping in my room wouldn’t get me far.

"Alright. You can resume school on Monday then since today is Friday. Also, if you're strong enough to go to school, it means you're strong enough to train."

"Who will be training me?"

"My best and strongest trainers will train you physically. My sharpest teachers will train your mind."

"What will happen if it turns out I'm not the white wolf even after all this training?"

"The training will not be a waste. They will still help you in one way or the other. Training starts tomorrow." Those piercing blue eyes bored into mine. "Are you ready for it?"

I nodded once.
"Yes," I said, my voice firm with conviction. "I am ready."
