Chapter 299

WILLA'S POV

I didn't have the slightest clue what to do. I didn't think I had been so confused in my life.
Were Lucian and I dating or not? The question kept racing through my head.
On the surface of it, it looked like we were. After the mind-blowing sex last night, I had let him lead me to his tent.
I had been too tired, too satiated to put up a protest. At that point, I could barely even walk.
We had lain close to each other. Lucian had gone to sleep not long after. I had lain awake for a long staring at the tent's roof with Lucian's arm around me, thinking until I had fallen into an exhausted sleep.
Now it was time to go. The bus was here. The students were piling in, laughing and calling out to each other.
Lucian had been all cute and attentive; getting my breakfast himself. Helping me to pack while supervising the packing of the specimens we had collected.
He had even helped me load my things into the bus.
And so I stood, taking one last look at the campsite. At the waterfall roaring in the distance. In the early light of day, it was all so beautiful.
A big part of me hated it leave it all behind because I felt that once we got to Worchmount, things between Lucian and I were going to be very different. Or very complicated.
"Time to go," Lucian said.
With a slight start, I realized I was now the only one left outside the bus. Everyone else was inside.
Lucian was  holding his hand out to me. I took it after a moment's hesitation and let him lead me in.
I suddenly remembered I had had to ride with the luggage in the back when we were coming here. I wondered if that was going to happen again.
But I needn't have worried. The spot beside Lucian's window seat was empty.
He dropped into his seat, patted the spot beside him when I didn't sit down at once. I supposed someone was getting a ride in another vehicle back to school.
"All aboard?" the driver said, twisting in his seat to look around.
Lucian took a sweeping glance at the bus.
"Samples loaded in the back?" he asked some of the guys.
They grinned and gave him a salute. Lucian nodded at the driver.
The bus roared to life. It started to pick it's way through the rocky path we had come through days before.
As the road got better, the bus picked up speed. Many times I wanted to talk to Lucian but I didn't have any idea what to say. How to start.
Lucian was at the window so I couldn't look out of it. It would look like I was watching him.
The other students kept giving Lucian and I curious glances. I stared down at my hands. I started to wish I had brought a book to read at least.
"It's pretty cold," Lucian said.
I turned to find him looking at me. My arms actually.
Gooseflesh had formed on them. I hadn't even noticed. I rubbed my hands up and down my arms.
"I guess...," I said in a small voice.
He took off his jacket, offered it to me. When I didn't take it immediately, he draped it over my shoulders.
He took a while making sure every part of me was covered. That drew a lot more stares.
Naomi, wherever she was seated, must have been pitching a fit.
"There," Lucian said when he had finished. "That should keep you a little warm."
I returned his smile.
"Thank you," I said.
He looked expectant, like he wanted me to say something else but again I couldn't think of a thing.
Doing things like this was the sort of things couples did, right? I suddenly wished I had something to talk about this with.
Maybe I could confide in Sienna when we got back. Or Hannah.
I huddled into the jacket. Lucian was right. The morning air was really chilly.
The other students kept talking about what they would do when they got back in school. I leaned back and let their conversation wash over me.
Lucian joined in their talk for a while and then fell silent. I kept staring straight ahead. I was afraid that if I looked at Lucian, I wouldn't be able to look away.
All the same I was so conscious of him in a way that was disturbing. It didn't help that the jacket had his scent all over it.
If I let myself, it would be so easy to remember how the scent of him had been all over me as we screwed each other's brains out last night.
