Chapter 304
WILLA
"I didn't lie to you," I said.
I reached out to touch Theron. He jerked away from me, his eyes dull with hurt.
That told me as nothing else could how angry he was with me.
"Just tell the truth, Willa," he hissed. He suddenly twisted around to glare at the guys still restraining him. "Get your hands off me. I'm okay now."
They looked at me. I nodded.
"It's okay," I mouthed.
They reluctantly released Theron. I moved so I was between Theron and Lucian in case Theron tried to attack him again.
With an oath, Lucian twisted his arms away from those holding him and stalked off. The boys followed him out, keeping a little distance.
I watched them leave for as long as I could. I didn't want to look Theron in the eye just yet.
I was very uncomfortable. I had a good idea what he was talking about by saying I had lied to him.
But I wouldn't admit it. At least not until I was sure that was what he was talking about.
After all there was still a possibility Theron was referring to something else entirely.
"Want to go with him?" Theron said bitterly.
My head whipped around.
"No," I said quickly. "Theron, you're hurt. Whatever happened between you two, you two didn't have to fight. Tell me what-"
"Enough, Willa. Enough," Theron barked. "You know what happened so stop the pretense already. You're very hypocritical, aren't you? I remember how pissed you were when you found out I fucked Sylvia. Yet here you are. You did the exact same thing. Tell me, what does that make you?"
I felt my heart sink a little lower.
My worst fears had come through. He had somehow found out about me and Lucian.
Of course I wouldn't have kept it a secret forever but I didn't want him finding out like this. From someone else. Maybe Noami had already started spreading the rumours.
Theron glared at me. "What? You suddenly don't have anything to say? When were you going to tell me about it, huh? Tomorrow? Next month? Never? I just freaking left your room, Willa! You had all the time to tell me about it if you wanted to."
Theron started to pace. He kept wincing with every few steps he took.
"Theron, I-"
"What? You can explain?" he said.
"Yes," I answered in a small voice.
He stopped pacing. He pressed his fingers to his side. "Then explain."
I opened my mouth. And closed it again.
Really, what was I going to say? I had known that sleeping with Lucian was a bad, really stupid idea and yet I had done it. Twice. And that was not counting the times we had made out.
"I'm sorry," was what I ended up saying.
Theron let out a bitter laugh. "Well that's rich, coming from you. Remember when I said the same thing? Remember how you reacted? You lost it."
"I- I can't take what happened back," I said.
"Damn right you can't!"
I heaved a sigh. This was going to be much harder than I thought.
"I didn't know how to tell you," I said. "But what happened between me and Lucian was one of the reasons- one of the main reasons- why I said we shouldn't continue with our arrangement."
Surprise and hurt replaced the look of anger on Theron's face.
I forced myself to go on. "I know you'll probably say it's just sex but I think it changed something between us. I know you'll probably not believe that but I'm sure it did. Lucian and I are closer now. Again I'm sorry things turned out this way. I know you would have wanted Lucian and I to bond some other way but..." I raise one shoulder in a shrug. "It just happened. Let's not pretend anymore, Theron but we can still be friends though."
Theron ignored the hand I had stretched out to him. I slowly lowered it back to my side.
"You're not thinking," he said. "When this did happen? Yesterday? A couple of days ago?" His lips tightened when the look on my face confirmed his question. "Just two days and you feel you've gotten all the answers. Take a step back and really think. You should not end our arrangement now-"
"Even if I've slept with him?"
Theron waved that away. "It's now you should do everything to find out if he truly likes you or if he just used you like the other girls before you. Wake up, Willa, and smell the coffee before it's tool late."
Deciding all the back and forth wasn't getting us anywhere, I said firmly, "I've already made my decision."
Theron's lips thinned.
"You're making a fucking big mistake," he said.
