Chapter 063

ASHER

As much as I hoped he would, my father still did not focus on Julia. Just on me. If I could have gotten off without telling him about Hannah, I would sure have done it.

i couldn't understand why i was being faulted for every of Julia's faults. First, she decided to poison Hannah and she couldn't even do it right. If she hadn't botched her elaborately planned murder, we wouldn't be here. My father wouldn't be staring at me like I was a pile of shit. Hannah wouldn't have embarrased me and worse, rejected me. I still couldn't believe that but it was all Julia's fault.

"This is no loss for us," my father said. "The solution can be easily remedied. You see the solution to all this, don't you?" When I shook my head, he gave me that disappointed look I had been getting lately. "Hannah must return here where she belongs. Since you said she's well now, that means the triplets have no evidence of what happened. She will be brought here and mated to you."

I gulped. My heart began thudding so hard in my chest I felt like I would choke. This situation was fast spiralling out of control. If he kept up with this line of questioning, I would be forced to admit the truth unless I could think up a very creative lie.

It seemed impossible with my way my head was spinning but I thought hard of one as I muttered, "That's no longer possible."

My father stopped in the act of reaching for his phone. *What did you just say?"

"I said I can't be mated to her anymore."

"That was what I thought I heard. Why did you say that?"

"It's... I rejected Hannah."

He slammed one large fist on the desk so hard the wood splittered. Why the hell was he so angry like he wanted her in the first place. The man loathed her.

"Why the hell did you do that?" he roared. "What the hell were you thiking? Why didn't you consult me before this?!"

I took an involuntary step backwards. Julia stopped crying, glanced at the door longingly.

I shrugged, feigning unconcern. "Why not? The girl is more trouble than she's worth. Always has been. Always will be. She can't even shift properly. What's the use of getting mated to a pathetic freak like that anyway? It would do nothing but taint my image. I should be with someone who is more worthy of me. I intend to be a great Alpha like you."

Julia was gaping at me in shock. I just hoped the bitch knew better than to say anything that would contradict me now.

"You're a fool, Asher," my father said. "A damn fool!"

"But it's ultimately my decision, isn't it? I don't see that I've done anything wrong. I just got rid of an irritant."

"Like I said, a fool! Don't you realize your decision to reject her will make you look weak?"

"I can't see that happening, especially since I'm the one who rejected her." My father sprang to his feet to pace the room.

"You can't see anything," he snapped. "even what's in front of your nose. All you had to do was make sure she got back here so we could proceed with the mating ceremony. But then what did you do? You blew everything!"

"I just decided this time to focus on more important things."

He turned on me with a look so furious that I froze. So did Julia.

"Out out," he roared. "Get out before I squash in that empty skull of yours!"

I didn't need to be told twice. I hurriedly left the room with Julia right behind me. I grabbed Julia's arm when we got to the corridor branching off to my room.

She winced in pain.

"Asher, let go," she said, attempting to free her arm from my grip. "It hurts. You're hurting me."

"You deserve that and more for what you've done." I glanced back towards my father's study. "All that happened in there was your damn fault. If you had stuck to painting your face and brushing your hair like you always do, none of this would have happened."

At the mention of her hair, she choked back a sob that had me rolling my eyes.

"Oh please. Save your tears for someone who cares. I have something for you to do."

"What?" she asked.

I bared my teeth. "You didn't imagine I was done with Hannah, did you? I know she's responsible for what happened to your hair."

"Oh oh. You believe me. I told the nurse. I told everyone that-"

I shook her arm. "Just shut up and listen. We have a job to do. This time, there must be no mistakes."
