Chapter 089

ASHER

"That stupid interfering bitch!"

I rolled my eyes at the ceiling, thinking here we go again. Another long hour of just listening to Julia complain about everything.

"Why does she always have to ruin everything? Why couldn't she just have died after everything we did to her?" Julia hissed and continued pacing the room like a tornado. "I can't believe she actually qualified to go to the next round. Don't you find it shocking?"

What I found shocking was that something as rare as a bond tie had to happen to me of all people. It was driving me crazy, and I was obsessing over it. Could it be that Hannah and I were destined for something?

What were the odds that she and I had to be connected in such a way? It seemed that each time we tried to separate, the moon goddess would find a way to bring us back together.

"The judges must be blind to even think for a moment that that bitch has a talent." She shook her blonde hair out of her face. "I mean, who goes to a talent competition and reads books? Can you imagine..."

Julia's complaints went on and on. They showed no sign of stopping. I felt my nails dug into my thighs.

"Shut the hell up!" I yelled. She started and stopped pacing. "I'm trying to think here. Your whining is killing me! If you want to bitch about Hannah—" I nodded to the door. "Then take it somewhere else."

She was quiet for all of two minutes. My thoughts were assembling themselves into some kind of order, and then I looked up and saw her standing right in front of my chair, arms crossed around her chest.

"What?" I snapped.

"You don't even... see me anymore, Asher," she complained.

"I can see that you are in my face. Back the hell up!"

Her voice took on that whining note again. "Not that! You don't treat me like I mean anything to you anymore. I think-"

"I don't give a damn what you think. I have more important things on my mind. Now leave me alone and let me think."

Julia got on her knees in front of me. She put her hands on the armrests of my chair, so I was forced to look up at her.

"Is it—is something serious?" she asked, her tone softening. “Tell me if I can help.”

I let out a bitter laugh. "You think I'll be sitting here, beating my brains out about something if it wasn't serious?”

She bit her lip. "I guess not. Tell me what it is. I can give you advice; maybe even help you. Come on." She added, seeing me hesitate. "You know you can trust me. Even if it's something top secret, I'm not going to tell anyone, not after all the things we've done together."

I was torn.

This was a serious issue, confidential too, as my father had pointed out. But then this was Julia. Like she had said, together we had done the sort of things that made it important, even compulsory to keep each other's secrets.

Besides, this thing was slowly eating me up inside. I couldn't even talk to my father about it because once he had given his instructions on the matter, going to voice my concerns to him would be like showing weakness or showing I was scared. He would totally hate that.

So I was left with two options: tell Julia or continue to die in silence.

"Asher?" she pressed.

So I told her. "Hannah fucked the triplets a few minutes ago. I felt it. It's not the first time either. Anytime she does it—and she's been doing a lot of it lately—I feel it. It's more pain than you can ever imagine. So you see, there are worse things than Hannah qualifying for a stupid pageant."

Julia stared at me in open-mouthed surprise for a long time. At least I had finally gotten her to shut up.

"H, how is that possible?" she stammered. "But the mate bond between both of you was broken."

"Yeah. I guess there are things your too complex for your dumb brain to comprehend."

Julia frowned. "You don't have to be mean. I was just trying to help. I feel there's more. Talk to me."

I told her the rest of it. All of it.

"Okaaay," she said, drawing out the word. "I get the whole picture now, but I still don't see what you're bothering your head about. In fact, her face suddenly lit up. "This bond tie thing is a good thing!"

I shot her an annoyed look. "Why do you and my father keep saying that?"

"Can't you see, Asher? This is our chance to get rid of Hannah once and for all. I know you and your father haven't been able to because of Wallace and his asshole sons and you not wanting to start a pack war, but this... It's like the goddess dropped the perfect solution right into our laps. We can do it without anyone suspecting a thing.”
