Chapter 330

LUCIAN
I let Marcus come at me, his arm muscles standing at attention. Finally he came within range of my fists.
I threw a punch that went wide. The next one caught him in the upper part of the arm.
I raised my hand to hit him again. Marcus fists smashed into my side. Twice.
I bit down on my lip. The pain was a welcome distraction. I wanted more of it.
Seeing he had gotten in two good hits, Marcua stepped back, beat his boxing gloves together.
"Got you there," he said happily.
"Come on, Marcus," I growled, coming at him. "Stop fooling around and put your heart into this."
He grinned.
"Easy there, tiger," he said, moving around the edge of the boxing ring.
As he started to say something else, I hit him in the jaw. He staggered.
The smile on his face disappeared. His eyes narrowed.
I felt a surge of satisfaction. That was what I wanted. Him angry.
Marcus came at me, arms swinging. For the next five minutes, we went at each other. The sound of flesh hitting gloves filled the boy's dorm gym room.
Marcus got in a couple of more hits. I got in more, used the pain and the motion to drown out the voices in my head.
Willa hadn't replied to the voice note I had sent, hadn't contacted me in any way and it was killing me.
Marcus got me in a clinch. I tried to lash out but couldn't.
Bracing myself, I pushed him away. I crashed my fist into his shoulder and his jaw.
He fell backwards and landed on his ass.
"Come on," I said impatiently. "Come on. On your feet."
Marcus blinke,  gave his head a brisk shake, did it again, grabbed the ropes and hauled himself to his feet.
"No thanks," he said, limping slightly. "I came to spar, not actually box. You'll flatten me if we go on like this."
I grunted in disgust. There went the only outlet for my feelings!
I eyed the punching bag in the corner. Maybe I would use it later. The only problem was that it wouldn't offer me much of a challenge.
Marcus grabbed a towel to clean the sweat pouring off his back. He threw the other to me.
"You good?" he asked me.
"Peachy," I said, dabbing at my face with the towel.
Marcus raised one eyebrow. "Is that code for miserable?"
"I don't know what you mean," I said, turning away.
"Oh come on, man. You're in one of those moods where you're trying to block something out. It's obvious. If I had let you go on, you'll probably have put me in the hospital."
He laughed.
When I didn't join in, he said, his tone growing serious, "Tell me about it. Maybe I can offer some advice."
I told him about Willa and the thing with Theron and Sylvia.
"She's mad at me," I continued. "Won't talk to me. I sent her a voice note. She ignored it. I went over to her place. She wouldn't even open the door." I sighed. "I can't say I blame her though. I really screwed up. Hey! Where are you going?"
Marcus was eyeing my gloved fists as he stepped out of the ring. He sat in one of the benches on front.
"Putting myself out of the way of temptation," he said mildly and grinned. "You look like you could start swinging with that thing any minute."
I looked down at my gloved hands screwed into fists. I stripped the gloves off and threw them aside.
"Seriously though," Marcus said, his grin fading. "You need to give Willa a reason to want to talk to you."
"How?"
"Easy. Don't just wait until she's ready to talk to you before making your move. You want to change? Start now. More importantly, let her see it."
"I promised I would change for her," I told Marcus. "I'm sure she will see it in time."
Marcus gave me a quick, started glance. Then he chuckled. My eyes narrowed.
"Something funny?" I said.
"Sorry. I was just wondering how you could be so naïve then I remembered that you are Lucian Drayton. You've never had to work hard to get any girl before. They all come running the moment you snap your fingers."
"Your point!" I snapped.
"My point is you are running out of time. Trust me. While we speak and you stand there thinking of who next you want to pummel the shit out of, Theron is making his move on Willa."
I frowned. In this, Marcus was most likely right. The bloodsucker would be hatching schemes to get Willa.
Marcus leaned forward. "Listen, if you want this girl and you're sure you're ready to be a better version of yourself..."
