Chapter 037
ASHER
Thompson's screamed died off in a gurgle. "That was just to wake you up a little in case my son's beatings had addled your brain a bit. Now tell me, why didn't you punish Jace when he humiliated my son in front of the entire school?"
"I did what I thought was best-"
"Again, wrong answer."
"I'm sorry-"
"That's better but not exactly the answer I needed. Have you turned your back on me? Are you now loyal to Wallace? Is that it?"
The principal shook his head quickly. "No. No. My loyalty is only to you, Alpha."
"Hmmm." My father tossed the fingernail dripping blood carelessly aside. "In the light of recent happenings, I find that very difficult to believe..."
"It's the truth," the snivelling idiot said.
"So you say. Unfortunate that you forgot I put you in that position at the school in the first place. You were supposed to protect my interests at all costs, not undermine my authority. We will always have troubles in this world when people keep turning around to bite the fingers that fed them." My father, his head cocked to one side, stood stroking his beard as he regarded our prisoner, an attitude he adopted whenever he was deep in thought. Finally, he sighed. "If it were not for your wife and children, you would be a dead man by now. I learned that it’s your daughter’s birthday today. You’re a lucky man.”
I eagerly stepped forward. "I think we should kill him. After what he's done, he doesn't deserve to live." Thompson cringed. Killing him would be such a joy. "I can kill him now if you want."
My old man gave me a look of disdain, similar to the one he had given me this morning in his study. "Have I thought you nothing, Asher?" I rolled my eyes at the ceiling, wondering which tidbit of wisdom he wished to impart now. "Killing people who lose their senses temporarily is not the right thing to do." He gripped the principal's chin, and applied pressure until his mouth hung open and he was gazing stupidly into my father's eyes. In the sudden silence of the room, my father's voice was a low hiss. "You did lose your senses temporarily, didn't you?"
Thompson nodded so fast his face was a blur.
"Yes. Yes," he gasped.
"Of course you did," my father said quietly.
Without another word, he left the room.
"I guess it's just you and me now," I told to the man whose terror had visibly increased the moment my father left. "I think it's time we had a little fun." To a guard, I said, "Get Hannah. Bring her here immediately."
Minutes later, she was dragged into the room. She looked around, and nearly fell over at the sight of the principal. I couldn't have hoped for a better reaction. She had been proudly brandishing Jace in front of me that day. I hope she never forgets this day.
"I thought you might want to see this," I told her. "Watch and be educated. Guards, make sure her eyes are open to see every second of this or you will be the one in this loser's place." As I replaced the brass knuckles with another that had spikes, the guards dragged Hannah forward so she could get a good view. I let Thompson have a good look at my new torture device and then I let him have it. I kept hitting him until my fingers went a little numb. At a point, I didn't know who was screaming more- Hannah or Thompson.
"Did you see all that?" I asked her when I was done. “Did you get a good view?”
She was crying so hard she couldn't talk. I raised my hand to hit her and she managed a 'yes.'
"Good. I wanted you to watch so you would see exactly what would happen the next time you step out of line."
"Please don't hurt me," she begged.
"Hurt you?" I laughed. "Hell no! Where's the fun in that? You wouldn't be the one sitting in that chair getting beat up. Your mother will. Oh yes. You heard me right. It's simple. You piss me off, I take it out on your mother. But the downside is your mother is so... what's the word now... fragile. Yes. I'm sure she wouldn't be able to endure half of the treatment Thompson got. She will die of the pain. And don't think for a moment I'll take it easier on her just because she's a woman. You know me better than that. So behave, Hannah. Also, this place is a bloody mess. Clean it up."
She fell on her face when the guards released her. As she sobbed and struggled to get to her feet, I left the room.
