Chapter 262

WILLA

I exhaled in relief and thought it was a good end to a really bad night. At least Naomi didn't know I had been on Lucian's room.

Why had Lucian helped me though? He still very obviously hated my guts. So why?

Still I thought that whatever his reasons were, I was grateful he had saved me from being scarred for life. I barely registered the rapidly approaching footsteps in the almost deserted hallway until a hand fell on my shoulder.

Still scared from last night although right here in school I had no reason to be, I whirled around. Smiling down at me was Theron.

"Hey Willa," he said.

"Hey," I mumbled and kept walking.

I soon left him behind. I heard him sigh then he hurried to catch up with me.

"I know you're upset with me," he said.

"Am I?"

"Yes. I'm really really sorry I didn't take your calls. When you called, I was really busy with some very important stuff."

I held on to the anger for just a little longer, then let it go. Whatever had happened last night hadn't been Theron's fault after all. Besides, good friend or not, did I really expect him to always come running everytime I called?

"It's fine," I said.

His face lighted up. "Really?"

I smiled at him. "Really."

He mimed arming sweat off his brow. "Thanks. Now we're good, tell me why you called. Did anything happen?"

"Yeah. But not something too serious though," I added when he frowned. Of course this was a serious understatement but then there was no need revisiting the whole thing. I was fine now.

"You sure?"

I nodded. His dark eyes searched my face.

I was afraid he would see some of the residual terror lurking there but apparently I was a better pretender than I gave myself credit for.

"Good." He started to say something, stopped to check his watch. "Got to go now. Almost late for a class. Glad we sorted this out, Willa."

He waved, backed away and soon disappeared among the sudden press of students moving down the corridor.

In class Sienna was half out of her seat, looking around the classroom. She spotted me, waved me over.

Like Theron she was full of apologies.

"Don't think I snubbed you last night," she said as she took her bag off the chair beside her for me to sit. "I spent half the evening studying. I was so tired when I got back I took a little nap." She laughed a little. "Only it really turned out to be a big one. I turned off the volume on my phone so I wouldn't get disturbed so I didn't hear it ring."

I told her it was fine, that I had just needed someone to hang out with that evening.

"Some other time then," she said.

"Yeah."

Sienna took her book out and started putting finishing touches on the homework we were to submit next week. I had already done mine so I just sat, along with the others, waiting for the professor to show up.

I heard a sudden peal of feminine laughter from somewhere behind me. Almost all the students were talking and laughing but this laughter was of the mean kind.

I started to turn to see who it was when I heard Sylvia say, "I'm telling you, girls. It was great. You don't know the half of it."

I dismissed it as Sylvia's usual bullshit and was about to focus on something else when I heard another girl say, "And you actually, like really, hooked up with Theron?"

"Hey keep your voice down," Sylvia said with a laugh. "We don't want the whole school to know I just had sex, do we?"

She said this but she wasn't exactly whispering either. She wanted me to hear every word she said. I was damn sure she had chosen her seat for that very purpose.

"Anyway," Sylvia continued. "Yes, we hooked up. Not so difficult when you've been banging the other person's brains out until recently."

She sighed. I could imagine her twirling her hair round and around her finger while the other girls and guys in a two seat radius leaned out of their seat to catch the latest bit of gossip.

They kept looking from me to Sylvia. I was sure if it. Could even feel their stares like physical weights.

They wanted me to say something, to react. I wouldn't give her or them that satisfaction. I continued staring straight ahead.

In a slightly louder voice, Sylvia said, "Last night was totally amazing. I missed how good it used to be between us. I'll tell you something though. Theron is a beast in bed." She giggled. "I'm really surprised I could even walk straight this morning."
