Chapter 253
THERON
I walked down the corridor, with my hands thrust into my pockets and my head down. Next thing I knew, I had walked smack into a broad chest and was stumbled backwards before I caught myself.
With an apology on my lips, I looked up. I found myself staring into the angry eyes of Lucian Drayton. Of course now I knew who it was, I wouldn't apologize nor even if I had knocked him down, which I sort of wish I had done.
For a long moment we stared at each other. Then Lucian looked over my shoulder at the door to room number 12. His lips tightened.
I allowed myself a smile knowing it would piss him off and it did.
"Wondering what I was doing back there?" I said. "Well I'll tell you. I was dropping off my very drunk girlfriend."
I thought Lucian was not going to rise to the bait this time because he said nothing for a while. Then the words came like they were being forced out of him.
"Isn't Willa out of your league?" he said. "I don't know what you see in common werewolf, you being a vampire prince and all."
He said prince with a little sneer on his face that made me really want to punch it off. I still held on to my smile.
I was almost sure he was jealous or at least getting there.
"Willa is exactly my type," I said. "I mean, what's not to like about her? She's smart. She's really pretty. She's... But it would be pointless listing all her qualities to you, I guess, since you haven't seen them yourself. Surprising if you ask me. I would have thought you had pretty sharp eyes."
Lucian's brown eyes searched my face. "You know Willa is my mate, right?"
Disappointment showed clearly on his face for a moment when I didn't show surprise.
I dusted a speck of dust off my leather jacket before answering. "Yes, I know that. But I don't care. Now I'm wondering why you bothered pointing that out."
"You know what the concept of a wolf mate is, right?" Lucian said.
His voice was now a low growl.
"I know but like I said, I don't care. Just the same way you didn't care when you fucked my girlfriend."
To my annoyance, the bastard actually chuckled. "Hold up a minute. Are you going out with Willa as some sort of revenge mission? If you are, then that pretty lame even for you. I don't give a damn about the girl so you're just wasting your time."
"Who said anything about revenge?" I said coolly even though I was seething inside. "I'm with Willa because I really really like her. As for Sylvia, you can have her with my blessings. I was already getting tired of her anyway. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got better things to do."
With my hands in my pockets, I was sauntering away when he called my name.
"Willa won't like it when she finds out the truth, you know," he said and paused. "The truth that you're using her as a tool in some half-assed revenge plot."
I didn't give the asshole the satisfaction of stopping or turning. I kept walking.
**********
Someone was pacing the corridor outside my door. She heard me coming and turned around.
Sylvia.
The sight of her brought back memories. Painful ones.
"What are you doing here?" I said, a snap in my voice.
"I've been waiting here for hours," she complained.
I repeated my question. Her eyes went dull with hurt.
"I came so we could talk," she said. "But clearly you had plans for tonight with someone else."
She tapped her foot impatiently, clearly waiting for an answer. It was surprising that she actually thought I owed her any sort of explanation.
Talk about feeling bloody entitled! I didn't owe her shit. After all she was the one who had cheated.
I shrugged. "Yeah. So what if I had plans? I've moved on. You shouldn't be surprised." I pushed her aside gently and put my key into the lock.
Seeing the pissed ex-girlfriend act wasn't getting her anywhere, she quickly changed her tactic.
"Theron..." She touched my arm. "I want to talk about us."
"Us?" I repeated and laughed.
When I turned the key in the lock, she grasped the door knob and opened the door before I knew what she was about to do. I slammed the door closed, put my back to it.
She gaped at me.
"What do you think you're doing?" I said.
"I- I- wanted us to go inside and talk."
"No freaking way, Sylvia. We're over. Finished if you don't understand the first."
I entered my room and shut the door in her face.
