Chapter 067

HANNAH

"You freak! What have you done?"

Julia's voice was still very loud but it's intensity waned with every word she uttered. She was staring at spreading pool of red that came out of her stomach and ran slowly all over the floor. It was just like in my dream. The only difference was that it was Julia lying there. Not me.

"You- you stabbed me," she said in a tone of utter disbelief.

"I did. I gave you a taste of your own medicine. It's only fair, don't you think?"

Gritting my teeth, I leaned over her, pulled out the dagger. It left her body with a loud, wet squelchy sound. More blood began to pour out of the hole the weapon had made. Julia's mouth was open in an o of horror as she now stared at the glittering, stained blade in my hand.

I casually glanced at my watch.

"You have about fifteen minutes before the silver poisons your blood and stops your heart," I told her. "Just thought you should know."

I deftly sidestepped the spreading pool of red, turned in the direction of the cafeteria. Since my dream was literally becoming a reality, it meant the cafeteria was where Asher would be lurking, waiting for Julia to bring me to him dead, injured or alive.

"Get... Help."

Julia's voice was now barely an audible whisper. She was stretching one blood stained hand to me in a silent appeal. The other hand was curved around her abdomen, vainly trying to push the blood back in. As if such a thing were possible. I spared her one last glance and walked away.

In a way, I supposed I was being merciful. If I had been the one lying there, she would never have stopped until she was sure I had breathed my last. Most likely, she would have defaced my body with multiple stab wounds.

If someone found her before fifteen minutes were up, then she was fortunate. If not...

I shrugged, pushed Julia out of my mind so I could focus on my next task. Finding Asher. When I got close to the cafeteria, I moved quietly, sneaking a look around after every few steps.

And then I heard him; just a soft, barely audible sound of a shoe scraping on the tiles. It was enough to tell me he was there. I felt a sudden burst of fury and gripped the knife tightly. I kept the hand holding it behind my back.

I mentally steeled myself, pushed the door to the cafeteria open with such force that it banged against the wall. Asher, with his hands clasped behind his back, had been pacing. Now he stopped. He was even wearing the exact same clothes he had worn in my dream. An exulted expression started to cross his face. It changed to one of amazement when he saw I was not Julia.

"You," he growled.

"Yes. Me. Surprised?"

Asher blinked, glanced over my shoulder at the door through which I had just come as though hoping that Julia would materialize out of thin air.

"Looking for someone?" I said.

"Where is she? What did you do to her? What did you do to Julia, you freak!"

"What do you think?" I said with a sneer. "She tried to kill me. Again. She failed just like she did the first time. Damn, but that girl can't seem to do anything right! This time, I suspect it was all your idea to kill me, wasn't it? It certainly was else you wouldn't be here while the whole school is outside."

I walked two steps into the room.

"Stay where you are! If you come any closer, I swear I'll kill you," he threatened.

"Your threats don't work on me anymore, you idiot, in case you haven't noticed."

"How dare you? How dare you-"

"I dare because I'm not afraid of you. Let's wrap this up quickly." I stopped talking to listen. The sound of student's voices were still as faint as ever. Good. This was my battleground now. I didn't want any intrusions just yet. "You have two options. It's either you stay here and fight, try to kill me as you threatened or-"

"Damn right I'll kill you, bitch!" he hissed from between his teeth.

From the hand not holding the dagger, I held up a finger. "Or, option two, you go and save Julia who is bleeding out in the hallway. She has fifteen minutes- no- Make it about twelve minutes to live."

"What did you do?" he screamed, his face contorted with horror and rage.

I thought it was funny how someone who had plotted to kill me seemed horrified about what I had done.

I tsked. "Don't look so angry. I merely returned the favour when I stabbed her with this."

He reared back like he had been struck when for the first time when I brought my hand out from behind my back to he saw the dagger coated with Julia's blood.
