Chapter 343

WILLA

I slapped his hand away. "Oh! There's Sienna."
I had spotted Sienna at the edge of the room, looking around for me.
"Who is Sienna?" Hannah asked.
I told my family I would be back and went to fetch her. Then I did the introductions and told them in passing that Sienna's parents were deceased.
"Now I see where Willa gets her good looks from," Sienna said when I was done. "You are all as good looking as movie stars."
Everyone laughed.
Jace grinned and said, "I like her already."
Cade shook her hand and said quietly, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sienna. Any friend of Willa's is like-"
Chase shoved Cade out of the way and pumped Sienna's hand. "What my brother means to say is you're welcome to the family."
From that moment on, I saw Sienna really relax. Seeing her warm up to my family made me happy.
After I had answered about a thousand questions on how I was settling in at Worchmount, I cleared my throat loudly.
"Family," I said. "There's something I have to tell you."
"What?" Chase said and winked, "You want us to take you shopping after we're done here?"
I rolled my eyes at him.
"I have a mate," I announced.
There was silence for almost half a minute. Then Hannah was pulling me in for a hug.
"Oh my gosh!" she cried. "A mate, Willa! I can't believe it. And you didn't tell me!"
"I'm sorry. I wanted it to be a surprise," I said.
"Well, consider me surprised," Cade said, rocking back on his heels.
A fleeting smile played across his lips.
"This guy..." Jace said reflectively. "What is he like? Emotions aside, do you think he's good enough for you?"
"Jace!" Hannah scolded. "Congratulate her first before tearing into the poor guy."
"I was just thinking out loud, sweetheart," Jace said. "Besides with three brothers watching out for you, this guy, whoever he is, should not expect it to be too easy."
I sighed and hoped my brothers would not go overboard with the 'overprotective brother thing'.
"What is his name?" Chase asked.
"Lucian," I replied. "Lucian Drayton." Then I added, "He's Lycan."
"A Lycan prince," Sienna chipped in.
"Hmm. I see," Chase said. If he was impressed by the fact that Lucian was a Lycan prince, he did not show it. "Is he around? I would like to see him."
"He should be around somewhere," I told them. "The moment I spot him, I'll call him over."
I asked them about the pack. They took turns telling me what they had all been up to.
But I could tell they were all brooding on the news about my mate. Hannah was a little vague in her replies.
Her eyes were shining with excitement. I knew she couldn't wait to get me alone so I could give her all the juicy details about Lucian.
As I talked, I kept an eye out for Lucian. Finally I spotted him approaching with two persons who could only be his mother and father.
"There he is," I whispered. "The one in the grey shirt."
In the hall, murmurs subsided and people stepped aside, nodding respectfully and bowing as the Draytons passed. I took quick, shallow breaths and tried to compose myself as they got closer.
Lucian's father was almost a head taller than his son and broad. The clothes he wore were hidden by an exquisitely cut trenchcoat which he hadn't taken off. He moved like he owned the room.
Piercing brown eyes, perfectly copied into his son's face, seemed to look right through my very soul. Beside him was his wife, a tall slender and elegant woman dressed in a smart two piece suit.
Her dark hair was pulled back in a bun so tight it hurt to look at it. There was something of Lucian in the curve of her chin and the way she held herself.
While her husband's face was expressionless, she looked stern. Like the type that would be difficult to please.
My heart sank.
I wondered if that was her usual expression or if she had already begun disapproving of me even before we met. It suddenly occurred to me that Lucian has not mentioned anything about his mother and how she would perceive our relationship yet.
What if it was she who would insist on Lucian's girlfriend being Lycan?
Lucian caught my eye and smiled reassuringly.
The smile I gave in return seemed hollow. This time, Lucian's presence did nothing to calm my nerves.
The Draytons got to us. I felt, rather than saw my brothers step forward, forming a protective shield behind me.
There was a second's silence then Lucian said cheerfully, "Willa, I will like you to meet my parents."
I managed a polite smile and felt my insides twist into knots.
