Chapter 14
Chapter
Shrugging we head down one of the halls. Picking a door at random and open it. Inside was all gray and white. White bed and dresser. Gray bedding on the queen sized bed. The room was bare lacking any personality. Tossing my bag on the bed I look around. A small closet and bathroom are on one side of the room. One wall looked to be gone looking out at the pack lands. Its one of the enchanted windows. Standing looking at the wall its like you are standing just out the front door of the pack house. My heart aches looking at my pack. I know it was the right thing to do no sign the contract but did I just cause my pack a whole world of problems?
Watching as the pack of pups burst through the treeline. Following the path from the school to the packhouse. Their laughs and squeals melting my heart. It was in that moment I knew I would give my last breath for them.. breaking this alliance with the winters is a good thing. Talking from the main room catches my attention. Walking into the room I find a concerned looking Dr. Locke and a couple young wolves who work in the kitchen and cleaning staff. Dr. Locke is pacing the main sitting area as the other wolves bring things into the kitchen.
“Ty think you need to come out here the doc looks like shes gonna have a cow.” I link watching her pace. Well if all else fails she is making a path for us through the jungle. Serious where do you find carpet like this? There are times I wish I could read minds or lips watching her pace mouthing a conservation with her self. Ty comes thought the door getting her attention. She smiles and picks up a large suit case. Walking to the dinning table she sets the case on it. Opening the case I see a bunch of gadgets and is that needles? Looking up at the doctor and wait for her to speak. “there is something in your blood I cant figure out yet. There’s what looks like a glowing ring of gold around the blood cells. But they are dimming. I have enough blood in the lab to run a few test but I need more to run others. Then I need a sample from every day until it is no longer in your blood. The problem being the obvious.” points to the door and her self. “how will you get a sample during this week?” Ty asks. My eyes landing on the needles. Everything clicking into place as I stare at them. “you want me to take samples twice a day every day. Shock freezing to lock everything in place.” I say not looking up at what I now know is a mini cryo storage containers. Looking up when no one said anything to see shock on everyone's face. “well what ever they did you do know your stuff. So my worry about showing you how to take the samples is much less. I was worried I wasn’t gonna be able to show you how to collect a clean sample. But” she shrugs. Closing the case she nods and leaves the floor.
Heading to the door I see father on the other side talking to Kevin and Jillian woods. Behind them was a hall table with picture drams laying on it. A painting leaning against one of the legs. A lamp, a vase with flowers. Father is going to make the new wall blend in with the rest of the floor. “see you in a week.” he says nodding to us we nod back as I shut the door and enter the code to lock the floor down. Staring at the door I hear clinking and knocking on the door. The screen showing me what is happening. One of the cameras going black as clay covers it. Jillian following Kevin's movements along the wall. No more then five minutes passed and the door was gone. Turning around the two wolves are standing at the edge of the kitchen area heads bowed. “nope none of that. I know your hear to keep us alive and have to be away from your lives for a week so lets just be equal?” I sigh out. Its the four of us for a week and I would rather have friends not staff. They both chuckle. Thank the goddess father didn’t have she-wolves assigned to keep us alive. I know I should learn to cook and clean up after myself but lets face it I don’t want to. I like the idea of being taken care of a little. I am not a total mess I do pick up after myself. I don’t take them for granted either.
We spend the rest of the night hooking up the TV and game stations. Pulling out a lab top I open it hoping its already hooked up to the WiFi and all streaming services. Not disappointed when its not though. The screen shows several of the CCTV surveillance cameras. Ill have to thank father for thinking about keeping up in the loop of things. I can also watch over the pack as they run patrol and drills see where we need improvement. Ty pulls out another lab top this one with all the information we needed. Tony a young culinary student. He wants to open a bakery in town. By the smell coming from the kitchen I am already a loyal customer. Andy just finished high school and took a job with his sister on the cleaning crew. He doesn't know what he wants to do in the future other than being a warrior in our defense. He had not decided if he wants to do it full time or part time. Full time that's his job. Does not need another job. Part time meaning they train weekends and one day a week run a war game drill. They get paid for the time. But its not enough to live off of. So they usually have other jobs. Doctors, lawyer, vet, ranch hands you name it our warriors do it. There are wolves that don’t take part in being warriors at all just train in defense techniques on the weekends.
