Chapter 7
Father and half the guys left to go find out what was going on leaving the other guys to watch over us. We had a huge boulder we used as a door at night. This was so we could all sleep without worry. It takes the six of us to push it into place. Normally it just takes papa and one or two of the guys depending on who is helping.
While we wait I ask James, Landon, and Luke about why they left or were kicked from their packs. “it’s a long story princess.” Landon signs out. Growling I hate being called princess even papa has stopped calling me that.
Luke on the other hand seemed upset still. “why so you can do the same?” he sneers. “that is enough young man. We do not talk to family like that.” Mother scolds “but are we though” he glares “well if you don’t feel we are there is the door. I’m sure we can live without your stink.” I glare. “stop it Easter leave Luke alone.” Sarabeth seethed getting in my face. I’m not gonna lie I was shocked but not as much as Luke. “we are a family each of us looks out for the other. Sharing our past can help heal and bring us closer.” James's even tone carries over us.
The richness of his powerful quiet tone has me wanting to submit but just. Mother giggles. “I take it you and your brothers were born alpha heir. So tell me what happened, maybe your sharing will help Luke.” my mother soothes us all to look over to see Sarabeth handing him a steaming mug. The stars in his eyes when she around has me wondering if you could have a pull to your mate early or if they just both are smitten with each other. “I won’t be surprised if they are mates. My brother and his mate were that close if not a bit closer as pups. If not she will be a good influence on him.” My mother whispers to me.
Smiling watching them as James starts. “as you guessed our father was the alpha big John is what most called him. I don’t know about the other guys but in our pack males carry the same first letter as their father she-wolves after the mother. Why this started no one knows but I will admit I hated it. We all did. On our sixteenth birthday, father announced that we would begin the trials to see which one of us would be alpha. They named us all after we were born. We all look identical even more so then. So they couldn’t remember which of us was born first. They decided to let time sort it out.
Only to find that each of us was better than the other two at one aspect of the alpha. Almost as if we are one soul.” He shrugs. “can't even imagine that.” Landon chuckles finally getting a sound from Luke that wasn’t a hump noise.
“When refused saying we would run the pack together each of us doing what we are best at picking up the slack for the others. We thought we had a solid plan but the elders did not agree. They demanded the trials. “there is to be only one alpha.” So when it came time we refused to fight each other. All three of us made it to the final four. I went first refusing to fight. I just evaded until they called it a draw. So they sent each of us against the beta heir. Who at this point is seething almost frothing at the jaws?
Father tried everything to put against each other we stood strong. So in the end, he announces Thomas the betas heir as the new alpha heir and his brother as the beta heir, and the three of us were banished then and there. We were given the count of sixty head start to the borders. If we made it off they would leave us to be rogues but if they caught us we’ll let’s just say not even the goddess would recognize us. We didn’t waste a second to grab anything we just ran shifting as we did. We barely made it off. John was not as lucky fathers claws got his back. It’s been a year so the scaring is low. We thought running through silver tulips would save us nope the pollen from silver tulips slows healing down but will leave silver scars behind. Took him a month to fully heal, but we are together so.” She shrugs.
“Well you boys are here now and you part of this family. We take care of each other. The only one we have to listen to is Jonah.” “If we don’t he might sit on us.” Sarabeth huffs. We all chuckle. She's still a pup her senses are not at full strength yet she has a few more months. So sometimes we have to hold her down. For safety reasons of course.
“what about you like?” she asks looking at him like he hung the moon. A goofy grin spreads “almost the same but our father is the or was the gamma. We are a little different yes we are triplets as well but as you notice not identical. I am the youngest obviously but my brothers never left me out. When the alpha wanted Landon and Luther to fight for the title they refuse saying they would step down and pass it to me. Then there would be no trial needed. So the alpha banished me right then and there. Landon and Luke, they could have stayed but they didn’t they gave up everything for me.” “your so dumb Luke we gave up nothing. You are our brother. We would never turn our backs on you.” Landon growls. “see that Luke we love you and so do we so stop being a stick in the mud.” Landon tossed a rock at Luke.
We spend the rest of the day making sure we had a good stockpile of root vegetables and meat. I caught three rabbits at dawn all by myself. The cave smells of rabbit stew. We would worry that someone would smell the cooking if we were not so deep in the cave. It’s like this cave was meant to be home. Our home.
Hours later father returned with a few more wolves in tow. A heavily pregnant she-wolf and a couple of males. They had been caught in the crossfire of the monster. Gathering us together he announces he and the guys will help the young alpha protect his pack in exchange for peace and supplies. His pack is new and small so does not have the manpower to hunt down and deal with this monster killing in his wake. This is Mary-Sue her mate, Hank. This is Hank's brother Jacob. They will stay here with you girls while the rest of us go lend a hand.”
-bang, bang- looking around for the noise. -bang, bang.- again only louder. Getting up to look for the noise but I’m sitting still I see the back of my no that’s “ATHENA WHAT THE FUCK?” startling I sink under the water of my freezing bath. Popping up coughing and gagging on the frozen water. Shivering I look around “mom” “are you okay dear. No one’s seen you all day. Why are you in a cold bath?” tilting her head. Glancing at the window. “what time is it?” “nine am you are expected at the office door at ten. What has gotten into you? Oh, what’s this?” picking up the journal before I could stop her. Opening it she glances at me. “you know journals work better if you use a pen to write your thoughts down.” Tilting it. I can see the writing clearly but she’s saying it’s blank. That’s odd. Maybe I should ask my father about it. Maybe.
