Chapter 5

Twenty minutes after I met up with my group we had a list of warriors and a link from rose telling me she has ros and Eris heading to town to shop for dresses. So I linked the delta hunter with a list of warriors for him to call up and be out front with two vans for us all. Heading down to our suite the only one heading to the gamma/ delta floor was jasmine. Kaleb has plans to move down to the delta suite once we take over. Not that I am pushing him to leave the nest but I have been pushing him to move down now. But he won't leave ros and ros won't leave uncle will and hunter. And well those three men have grown so used to each other being around that no one thinks they could function alone. Another reason that Caleb won't move down alone is that he hates being alone. We all do. We live in packs because we really are herd animals. We live in groups for safety and company. Being alone we lose touch with what is the wolf and what is man. Even rogues live in small groups.

Walking into my room I see a giant black spot in the middle of my sister's bed. Rolling my eyes I point out of the door. When the giant fuzzy blood-sucking spider just stares at me with all four of its creepy red eyes. “Matilda doesn’t make me throw you out the window I want alone time I don’t feel like you spying on me for Eris. Go on I think I saw the cats chasing a big rat.” arching my brow at the stubborn thing. Matilda is a giant black window cross with a wolf tarantula. Well okay not really that's just what she looks like. We all have spent many many hours searching up the thing. No one knows where it came from just showed up in Eris's crib one morning and that's where she stayed. The only one that can touch her is Eris. On the day I was born a litter of guardian pups. The runt wasn’t doing so go one of the farm hands brought the pup to my father cause my mother would have had a fit if the pup could have been saved. Thinking worse until the wolf walked into the room where mother was feeding me. Father said she felt the same way she did the night her cows were born. Just like her cows, this pup was important to me.

The pup had to be in the same room as me from day one. Now she's out in the field chasing rabbits and cows. She and my mother's cows spend a lot of time together. I swear it's like they are talking to each other sometimes. I even swear I saw Matilda out there once. But she is a spider and spiders do whatever they want. I know Matilda would be at Eris's side in no time. Freya has a habit of knowing right where I am and when I step outside. I can never keep her out of my room or next to me when she wants to be there. No one knows how she gets through all the security locks and doors but nothing can keep her from me. My mother's cows tried once to come into the house and a shadow got stuck in the door. Have you ever seen a huge bull with its big head stuck in a door? It's funny if it's not happening to you.

Pulling a bag from the closet I start to open drawers for socks lots of socks. Then pants. Are these gonna be warm enough? Should be we don’t feel the cold like a nonshifter. We tend to run hotter but if it's too cold we can shift and our fur is a good keeper warmer. Looking at my lame options for clothes. Well, we do live in the perfect place. It gets chilly here but nothing too bad. I might need to buy thicker clothes later it will depend on how long we will be there.

Looking at our window seeing Eris storming up to the door. Well, times up and I am off out the door. I have about ten minutes before she can reach out to the floor. If done right I can be just outside the stairs door when the dig of the elevator hits. So I grab my bag and run. Reaching the ground floor I take off outside heading for the barn. I know the father would be out there it's getting close to the evening walk for shadow and snow. Before I can make it to the door the deep moo of snow was behind me. “damn it snow I so am painting a white stripe down you. This hiding in the shadows is gonna kill me one day.” I huff out as the giant black heifer pushes against me. Running my fingers through her thick black hair as the big white bull storms up from the side. “hey there shadow. You look to be in a mood. Has father forgotten cinnybonnies?” reaching in my pocket as his giant white head swings to me before he pushes up next to his sister. My mother had an unhealthy obsession with these little cinnamon rolls things bites. Hell, I don’t know what they really are but ya they are good and a staple around here. And of course, she shared her favorite treats with her cows. We live on a very successful cattle ranch. These two cows are the safest cows we have. They were my mother's companions. She had nursed them to health when their mother died having them. A male and female calf one white as pure snow and the other as the darkest hole. She named them to shadow and snow. I am sure you can figure out who is who. Yep, the black one is snow and the white one is shadow. Why? Mother said she named them how she did because it just seemed right. And the added benefit of confusing others causes simple minds.

“hope you brought enough to share?”
