Chapter 130

Maximus pov

Heading to the north border expecting to hear fighting as all the alarms went off. Slowing as I get closer. Sniffing the air around me and all I smell is us.

Coming closer and sniffing the air my nose starts to burn. Shaking my head and sneeze trying to get whatever it is out of my nose. Swaying where I stand. Looking around the team with me starts swaying doubling tripling swirling making me dizzy. Dropping to the ground. Fighting to stay up and move. Trying to get to my men, but I can’t move to drop heavily to the ground. Blackness takes me over.

Coming to shaking my head and looking around I see several others waking up. The light was a dusty orange-red through the trees. It’s dawn? My neck hurts and there’s an odd humming in my ear. I try linking the guards in the security room and got nothing. So I try linking Fallen again nothing. Opening all the links I try linking the pack and again nothing. The only thing I can hear is that humming.

Nodding to the team we run back. It’s cold out so I didn’t want to shift and be naked in the cool morning air. Picking up speed wanting to figure this out. Getting to the pack we all head inside to shift. Heading upstairs to lift the lockdown I notice a thin layer of dust over everything. Rubbing the back of my neck I feel a small bump. What? “beta max um well the food in the kitchen is spoiled. How can that be?” “your guess is as good as mine.” Patting his shoulder.

Walking into the office I flick the computer on. Waiting for it to load up I look at the clock on the desk. Three am Sunday. No last night was Monday. How could it be Sunday? When the computer booted up I entered my code to shut down the lockdown. This code changes every lockdown. When a lockdown is incited you are given a code to shut it down. Only the leadership knows how to receive their code.

A high-pitched beeping started in my head. Grabbing my head I stumble to the door. I slowly make my way down to the elevator. Hitting the clinic button I lean against the wall. I try linking fallen again only this time the beeping got louder. The more I open my mind the louder the sound is. Falling out of the elevator startling the clinic staff. Rushing to me and calling for help the receptionist asks me a series of questions I can barely hear.

“THERE'S A BUZZING IN MY HEAD IT'S KILLING ME,” I yell not realizing I was yelling until the girl covered her ears. Shaking my head and mouthing “sorry” she nods as doctor Locke shows up. Talking to the girl I can’t hear what’s said but she’s pointing to me and then her head finishing by covering her ears. I wasn’t to laugh at how funny she looked if it wasn’t so serious. Helping me up and to a room, Dr. Locke shorts looking me over. I keep rubbing the back of my neck. “why are you doing that? Does your neck hurt too?” she asks pulling my hand away to poke at my neck. I nod she hums. Then there was a stabbing in my neck. “hmm odd. I think something is in your neck wait here let me get some things so I can have a look. I need you to remove your shirt and lay face down” it was broken but with it, just us two in here and the beeping went to hum again so I was able to hear better. Nodding she walks out.

Five minutes later she’s sticking a needle in my neck to numb my neck. But that burned. After another few minutes of asking what has happened to cause a two-week lockdown. Jumping up some to look at her confused even more. “what do you mean two weeks?” “Well, the alarms went off a lockdown started, and then just now it was lifted two weeks later.” Tilting her head. Pushing my shoulder to lay back down I do. “feel anything?” “no” then I feel a push and hear the odd combination of cutting skin and humming.

“well, how did this get there? Anyone else complaining of a hurting neck?” “don’t know doc it was kinda a sudden thing. Last night I started the lockdown and this morning you told me it’s been two weeks. What was in my neck?” I ask as she drops something in a lead box with a magnet. “you had a tracking chip in your neck.” Then the phone in the room starts ringing. She answers the phone. “Dr. Locke…yes one second please…….beta max it’s for you.” She holds the received out to me. Sitting up rolling my shoulders sighing at the humming being gone.

“beta max….what does he want?........put him through……Maximus black …….yes, I am aware of the pack of wolves on our land it’s a protected pack why? …....yes, I am away that they cross into our cattle pastures. We have never had an issue with the pack. …..no we do not want you to hunt the pack. What part of a protected pack? If I find out you touched one hair on any of the wolves I will bury you in so many lawsuits you great great great grandchildren will still be paying your debt.” I calmly reply before ending the call. Trying to link finding I can. Opening all channels. “black rose pack I need any wolf with a humming in their head to the clinic. No shifting outside humans is on a hunting demand. Is anyone missing are been attacked by a human?”

Dr. Locke can you look over any wolves that come down for a tracker and get rid of them?” she nods and I slip my shirt back on as I leave heading back upstairs. I need to see fallen and my boys. I need to see Enoy and the pup. Opening my link to link Kai and Kaleb I only got Kaleb. “dude you have seen Kai?” “hope but dude what happened dean swears I’ve been gone two weeks and the calendar agrees. What is going on? Enoy is pissed.”
