Chapter 80
Walking into my office I see Johnny, Sara, Sally, and my father waiting for me. “Alpha” johnny bows his head. Waving my hand “from this moment on formalities are only in have-to situations. As the leader of this pack, we will all sit at the same table so we are equal.” “But not.” My father grumbles. Shaking my head I lean against my desk. “So I don’t want to wait to seal you all as the leaders but I also don’t want to take the ceremony away from the pack. As it’s been a while since the pack had a full team I’m sure they will feel it when you all accept.” Crossing my arms against the chill I still feel.
“Why don’t we do it at supper? I had the kitchen make a pack supper when you woke up.” Sally says offhandedly as she picks up a file flipping through it. Johnny raises his brow as he tries to look over her shoulder. “it's not a bad idea. Then you can give us the passwords to everything. Then I can start setting up a new security plan.” Sara says as she picks up another file. I’m sure they have all looked at the recipes for the different department's orders while I was asleep. But the fact they are pretending to be interested in what’s in the files. “and looking at the stables and kitchen recipes for last quarter is not enough for you all?” I try not to chuckle as they all look up at me in surprise. “how did you know what we are looking at?” “First they are on my desk second the color on the label tells me what file it is.” Pointing at them. “but I will give you all the passwords now and then we can start to gather what we need for supper we have what an hour?” they toss the files back on my desk and nod.
“I ordered tablets and laptops for each of you when we all agreed to the tournament. They are in your new rooms.” Walking around my desk to open the middle drawer. Pulling out four sets of keys I hand them out. “all the information you need is your rooms.” “Someone could have broken in there and gotten into everything” Sally yelled. “Michaela helped me create special locks. For the locks to work you need the keys. For the keys to work I had to place them in your hands freely. So I am pretty confident no one’s been in the rooms. Once you log into the banks linked to your computers debit cards for those accounts will be issued for you to use in running what you need.” Waving them out as I need to go get checked on my still freezing from after my bath. And I am starving.
Heading down the hall to ferns room. My knocking caused the door to swing open. Laying on the bed is fern sleeping. She looks pale and gray. Her chest slowly rises and falls. “oh alpha I’m sorry madame fern is a little under the weather. The spells took a lot out of her. Is there something I can help you with?” A young girl stammers. “I was coming to ask why I am freezing still. But I don’t want to wake her if she needs the rest.” “oh, you are still healing from the burns. Your nerve endings are still healing and so blood flow in the small veins in your skin is not fully working yet so temperature control is a little off. I suggest a warming blanket that stays at a constant temperature and shuts off after a couple of hours so you can’t overheat until just after dinner tomorrow I would think.” She says as she starts pulling things out of jars and putting them in a paper sack. “and brew this tea have someone test it so you don’t burn your mouth and cause that to take longer to heal.” She shoves the bag in my hands ushering me out of the room. Nodding as I let her push me out and shut the door in my face. Odd little thing it was like I was frozen and just accepted what she was saying. Though come to think about it it all did make sense.
We don’t have heating blankets so I’ll just settle for a big heavy fluffy throw. She said I would be back to normal by this time tomorrow so I can handle it. Heading to the kitchen to brew some of this tea.
“alpha what can I do for you?” “just came to brew some tea. How are you all?” “We are very excited to see you up and about.” “oh while I’m here do you all by chance have time to make a special dessert for tonight? Don’t say anything but I’m gonna give the titles tonight at dinner.” The five workers gasp and start talking too fast to each other.
“Oh yes, alpha don’t you worry we will have something special for dessert. Will you be doing the titles before supper or between dinner and dessert?” “between dinner and dessert, I think. It sounds like the best time. What do you think?” “it's perfect. Here give me the tea I’ll brew some and bring it to you. Will you want it with supper as well” Nodding I hand her the bag as she shoots me out of the kitchen? Shaking my head I head to one of the living rooms to watch some TV and cuddle under a blanket for a while.
Grabbing the remote and the biggest fluffiest blanket in the room I find the perfect spot and wrap myself up and flip through the channels. Settling in some family comedy rerun I wait for Anne to bring me my tea. I want to turn the heat up but the girl made it clear not to so let’s hope the hot tea works.
