Chapter 62
Looking at me like I lost my mind Ambrose looks around “what? Are you talking to me?” glaring at the witch he knows damn well I am talking to his smug ass. “okay okay don’t ruffle your fur. I may have cast a small spell hiding something from you and the winters. I could tell you what it is but if I do then what was the point. Trust me okay I will lift the spell in..” he stops looks to the sky then bends down grabs a hand full of dirt lets the wind take it from his hand over the cliff's edge. “in three days the young alpha of alphas will be here after he leaves I will break the spell.” and he disappears. Leaving me angry and confused at the cliff's edge. It took a good ten minutes of staring down to the shoreline before his words sink in. Apollo is coming in three days. My wolf starts clawing at my chest in anger both of us hate the new alpha of alphas. The hatred and anger seem to be more than just what he and his family has been doing to me.
Shifting back I start walking back to the pack house. As much as I would love to stick around I have too much work to do. The herds need to start breeding. The sheep and goats should be dropping offspring soon. We have split the breeding up so that we don’t have too many offspring at one time. We have a sizable nursery barn and orphan barn but we found that having all the animals breed in the same season can cause space issues. So the cattle are bred in the spring bringing them into the close pastures. The sheep and goats move to the outer pastures with their older lambs and kids. Having them breed in the fall and moved into the nursery barn in the early winter while the cattle are in the outer fields. If he breeds the horses we do it at the same time as the cattle.
Not only do we have livestock to look after I have several businesses I need to sign off on not to mention a rotation at the clinic. We have a few she-wolves with pups along with several new rogues that need medical attention. One young she-wolf stumbled on my land after her parents had been attacked by a grizzly. She barely made it to the border. I have a feeling she may be Tyler's mate with how he checks on her often and has asked for her to be given a room on the upper levels closer to him. She's just seventeen so still too young to know. Ty is one of the only people that can calm her down when she has a nightmare. So I told him to place her on the visiting beta suite when she can be moved. Her wolf was weak as was her human side. She will need a lot of help physically and mentally I think. I will go over a plan with her today. I have yet to tell her I am the alpha as it's easier for non-pack members, to be honest, and open about things with the alpha. Especially if they are rogues or from horribly ran packs. Seeing how concerned Ty is with the little wolf I made him in charge of her care. I have a feeling he will get the answers to what happened to her before anyone else.
Tyler pov
There is something about this little wolf that calls to me. When Phil took off earlier I came down to the medical wing to see how things are going. She's looking better every day. When I asked Phil about the princess his response was so odd I had someone look for Ambrose. He's been misting in and out a lot lately and to top things off I can't find Jillian or Kevin and the creeks need redirecting closer to the breeding fields. Our beef and dairy cattle bring in a lot of revenue for the pack. Well for the winter's pack it turns out. But now that the contracts are broken we no longer will be sending a check or gram of meats to them. I have all the papers that need Phil's signature on his desk. The more we practice the training we had thought we would be getting the more information we seem to know. After what Artemis told me in the truck the more I think that the witches working with the winters are to blame. I have no idea what they did to us and Dr. Locke could only find traces of something odd in our blood but it soon was gone two even having been frozen.
Knocking on the door I wait for her to answer. A soft “come in” floats through the door. A small smile grows on my face as I open the door. “hey there I brought you something from the dining hall I don’t know how the food is down here.” smiling at her I see her cheeks stain red. The color is almost as bright as the mess of fire that frames her pale freckle-covered face. Her bright moss green eyes stare at me in almost a relief look. “oh thank your Tyler you’ve been too kind to me.” “how about as a reward for bringing you the last cinnamon roll you tell me your name?” I ask with pleading in my voice. Why do I need to know I have no clue but my wolf is dying to know. She's quiet just watching me I am about to say it's okay some other time when she smiles a little and says “Michelle” my heart dropped as she says her name something in me trying to click and just not making it. Trying my luck some more I ask “are you ready to talk about what happened out there?”
She breaks a small piece off the warm bun sticking it in her mouth slowly chewing thinking something over before she nods. “my family and I were kicked out of our pack. My mother wanted me to be able to choose my mate. My father supports that decision as he never wanted to mate my mother. It was an assigned mating to produce strong pups, like most mates in the pack. When the beta wanted to mate me and mark me at 16 my father refused to say I was just a pup and it was against the laws. The beta took it to the alpha who backed the beta of course as they are brothers. My mother was a maid in the alpha's house and overheard what they planned to do. The details I still don’t know but it was enough for her to rush home and pack us up to run.
My mother and father gathered all the money we had and we each filled a bag with clothes and food. All but Michael he was too little being only five. Micha my older brother and my father carried most of the heavy things as they are the strongest. My mother lost her wolf after Michael was born something the alpha did to her. So for a year we ran hiding in human towns or caves never staying too long not wanting to be found. Then one day we stumbled on a group of witches in the woods. They were talking about over-taking the winters soon they already had a witch in high standing in the pack. When they saw us they attacked. We tried to run but as far as I know, I was the only one to escape. I know my family is gone I felt the bonds break. I still hold hope Michael is still alive but I have lost hope. He's only six now too young for a wolf.” the last of her words breaking into sobs. Without thought, I took her in my arms.
“can I ask why all your names are so close?” causing her to giggle and hiccup. Pulling back so she's looking me in the eyes a soft smile in them as she remembers something “my mother's name is misty and my father's name is Mishy. So with them so close they wanted that to there to be no question on if we were theirs.” “Mishy? That’s an odd name?” she nods and laughs “yes it is it's a family name passed down to the first born sons but mom put her foot down. It's old Russian meaning like god.” “do you plan to continue with the mis-something names when you find your mate?” a stab in my heart thinking about her finding her mate. Shaking her head “as much as the whole thing is cute we all had the same initials do you know how hard that is Micha always ate my snacks cause his name was on them.” she huffs. Chuckling I ask “so little one how old are you and what pack were you in?”
