Philip pov
Looking down at Eris with a question on my tongue when she shakes her head letting me know we will talk later. With a nod I take her in “you look stunning little one so much like your mother but also so much of just you.” her cheeks flush as she smiles up at me. Before she could say anything the song ended with “thanks daddy” hopping up to kiss my cheek. She links “we will talk tomorrow okay” with a nod she's off. Heading over to where Ty is standing holding a couple of cold ones. “what's up with her?” he nods behind me. Glancing over I see he's talking about Eos. She sniffed and walked the room. “looking for her mate I assume.” I shrug. Shaking his head “does she not have a sense of smell?” turning to watch her as she makes her way around the room. “she has to have known coming in if her mate was here being the alpha of alpha heir. Well, you would think?” I wonder out loud. Catching his nod as he to is watching her walk the room.
“think her father sent her to look for something else?” “Like what?” he shrugs and I start to think over a possible reason for her to show up. “you know she doesn't favor the winters much does she?” I asked tilting my head slightly trying to see Apollo or even a hint of Artemis. But nothing the only thing that even hints at being a Winters is the gold eyes. “you know her eyes look like dull versions of the girls right?” Ty asks. With a nod we just watch her move about the room. Reena comes over with a plate full of finger foods. “Eris said you probably have not eaten lately and sent this over,” she says holding the plate to me. Confused I look down at Reena. When was the last time someone ordered her to do anything? “I know that look and I heard her ask one of the servers to bring it to you I just told her I would. I wanted to ask you first have you heard from the kids? And second why does the princess look like the clearance version of the girls? Kavin is tailing her but just passing her I could not feel any power coming off her. you know when the girls walk into a room it well okay, you use to before learning to hide their auras. But one look at that girl I can tell she's not trained for anything a day in her life. And being the princess shouldn't she be showing her power? shouldn't our wolves want to submit to her? So why do I feel I could walk up to her and slap her with nothing happening?” she finishes glaring at the princess. “that is a good question I hadn't even thought about that what made you think of it?” looking at her out the side of my eye.
“a young man over there.” she nods to the fake balcony looking over a rose garden. “tried to convince Eris he was her mate. And she very sweetly with her full aura, after a while told the young man to piss off. So then when I passed by the princess it struck me as odd.” she says turning to stand next to me tracking Kavin as he walks the room.
Alarms blare out. Guest start to panic whereas our pack calmly helps guide them to find a seat as we head to the door. Linking the pack “y'all know the drill the guest do not please help them to keep calm and in the ballroom.” “yes alpha” sings through my head as we make it through the door to the stairs. Racing up the stairs I hear Reena yelling at the princess to get her scrawny ass back in the ballroom or she will not so nicely bring her back herself. The tone Reena had told me she is hoping for the latter and that black mess of curls on her head would be the handle Reena would use. Reena may not be a warrior in the pack but that does not keep her from training with Kavin every chance she has. The murder of Artemis affected us all in different ways. Reena blames herself and thinks she should have been there. I keep reminding her there was no way I would have let Reena leave let alone did she think Artemis would have let her out of her bed. Why it's simple Reena had miscarried a pup the week before.
Yes, we heal faster than humans physically but Reena was still suffering internally and emotionally with the loss of her pup. She had a rough time with the pregnancy from the start. Sicker than when she was pregnant with jasmine. But she also wasn’t gaining weight and she just looked weak. Turns out the pup while in development attached to the opening from the Fallopian tube and uterus. So as the umbilical cord and placenta were developing they pinched that opening normally not a big deal to pinch it closed happens over time with the pup anyway. The problem was being so close the umbilical cord got trapped under and behind the placenta so as both grew it pulled the cord tighter and tighter until caused a rupture ripping the cord in half. There was no way to save the pup and Reena had to have a c-section to deliver the pup. Doing this means cutting with silver a scar on her uterus from silver would make it hard to have another pup for them. If there had been another option they would have taken it. So Artemis made it clear that Reena was to be excused from lawyer work and pack work until she healed fully from the loss of her pup and any future pups she might never have.
I had agreed with Artemis that no Reena was not going and Michelle was too big carrying rose to go. So we had sent extra guards. Some never returned and the others are with the goddess their ashes spread on the land in our crops. We come from the earth to the earth we return to help feed the next.
