Chapter 98
Starting the paperwork for the fifty new wolves that came in yesterday Kyle has taken lead in helping the new wolves pick names and getting set up in the pack. Having thought I would need to have the packhouse expanded a year ago I had more rooms built. I had made that discussion based on the increased projections of the pack for the next few generations, either way, we have the room and there won't be too much adjustment to the pack. Whatever it was that pushed me to expand I am grateful for it.
Soon john, wade, and the warriors are back. While they are unloading the contents of the hill pack I call Ambrose to come to the office. I had sent him to look at the cells yesterday after Kyle could find nothing on the tapes. John walks in confused looking around “you seen amber and the pups they didn’t come to welcome me home like normal?” smiling brightly at him “shes with Allie and our son Philip” I can see the shock roll over him as what I said sinks in. “no shit man how?” “Allie was poisoned. And before you ask we can't find the she-wolf that poisoned her. She disappeared.” stopping him before he even asked.
Coming into the office wade and Kyle have computers. talking about the best way to get into the files on the hard drives. John was the first to notice Kyle's mark. “so she is his mate?” catching everyone's attention. “wait you knew she was my mate how? Why didn’t you tell me?” Kyle demands “we had an idea when she found wade’s hoodie and would you have wanted to find her spoiled by knowing she was getting closer?” he thought for a moment then shook his head at me.
Kyle and wade hook up the computers and we find nothing. Okay, that's a lie we found an email that said “nice try” and the bank accounts were empty how this pack was running I have no idea. We called several of the packs close to both mine and that of the hill pack and asked about alpha Silas and his pack. No one has seen or heard from him since the day I took him into custody. Ambrose couldn’t find magic in the cells so he is at a loss as to what happened. He knows magic was used he can feel it but he can't feel it at the same time. He's going to put upwards to make using magic on the property hard. The hill pack had to have been running somehow none of the wolves looked starved. Taking a chance I asked for 70 and 96 to come to the office. I know they both spent time in the house and might know how the pack was being run. They both looked scared at first I am sure it's a response from living in a horrible place. “I just wanted to know if you knew how the hill pack was being run?” both shaking their heads. “how did you get food to the pack?” they looked at each other for a long moment before 96 answered the question “actually alpha we have no idea our meals just kinda showed up. I don’t think anyone of us has ever been to the kitchen.” she tells me “oh and can I be called Beth from now on I seen it in the book and liked it?” I can see the fear in her face and voice “a beautiful name for a beautiful; girl. We are in the process of doing all the paperwork for you all. We will come to see you all soon with the paperwork so we can finish with names and birthdays along with a photo to go in the file. “wow” under 70 breath fear racing over his skin. Looking at him “what's wrong?” “sell papers?”
The shock I should have been shocked but I wasn’t as I shake my head. “not in this pack. We keep files on all the wolves in the pack for several reasons. Family history as you know some wolves have genetic issues from time to time. The files help us with what helped these conditions. We have the highest rate of overcoming the health issues we still have. We also use it for ordering supplies and adjusting the packhouse to accommodate the rising projections of the pack.” his eyes widen at every word I speak. Not in fear and shock but in curiosity. Looking at him closely I could sense he would thrive in the accounts or supply departments of the pack. But I ask anyway. “so if you could do any job in the pack what would you like to do? Again this goes in the file just in case we need someone who specializes in the area.” letting him know that we take every part of the pack seriously. While he thinks about it 96 means Beth speaks up “when we got here we were taken to a clinic could I maybe work there. I could clean there?” I can hear the fear in her voice but it was wade who replied “do you want to clean?” she looks at him for a long moment and shook her head “what do you want to do?” she thinks for a moment then looks at us all lowers her head “I want to be like Dr. Locke she's so nice and smart and helpful.” “doctor great we can always use good doctors maybe we can talk to Locke about you being an assistant until you get caught up in school and start medical training.” john says not paying attention to Beth as he talks. Watching her eyes light with life for the first time since I have met her I know this is the right thing. Taking in so many wolves at once can put a strain on the pack but with one look at the faces of these wolves I know I would give up all I have to save them.
