Chapter 46

Fallen pov

Running to the lookout cabin as fast as I can. Thoughts of that kiss with max are still heavy on my mind and lips. I want to rush back and do it again and more but the urgency in the way Ambrose was speaking kept me going to the cabin. Getting there I close and lock the door as I pull the pots and the box along with everything else Ambrose has sent out here over the few days. Everything has a glow and shine now. The colors in the jars have gotten brighter and a few have changed a little.

Setting all up I pull the jars out of the salt. Setting them all near the pots. Then pulling the mixing bowl to me I take the jar with the red black orange silver liquid that doesn't mix into the jar. Taking the strips of fabric I dip them in the liquid and drop them in a pot once I have one left I drop it in and gather the pots and jars up and head out. Running along the border all my life I know just where to put the pots so it won't take too long to run the border and set the pots. Getting to the first spot I pull a pot and jar out opening the jar of glowing green pudding-like stuff I dump it in the pot then put the jar in a bag to take with me. Then I move to the next. I noticed none of the things have a smell to them that's good it won't attract things to them. Looking up I see I have maybe another forty minutes so I pick up my pace around the border.

Setting the last one I run full speed to get back to the cabin and the halfway point. Making it back with only minutes left to finish what I have been tasked with. I scramble to open the jars and dump them in. Now the hard part is a partial shift. I have not shifted since they arrived and it's been years since I did a partial shift. It was at my brother's mating ceremony. We blessed the union by spilling our blood over their joined hands. This will ensure that our line continued. With Pinga being human we must bless the mating. As humans don’t have a bear the union needed the blessing of the whole clan. A clan blessing only works on fated mates. With there being so few bears left this will ensure polar cubs are born from the pair. A way to keep the line going. Now it's left to me and I won't have a blessing from my clan so I am the last bear. I am the only one that can ask for the winter's blessing over the pack lands. Staring up I have just seconds left I close my eyes dig deep in me and pull on my duel nature asking myself for only half of each to come to me to strengthen me. Unlike other shifters who do a partial shift all the time, this is a different partial shift. I have to merge my mind with my bear's mind. We are of one but still separate like well every shifter but when I do this it's a merged shift between the two a balancing act not too much of either half. Hands with claws and pads but also fingers it's a rather unsettling sight. I am convinced the creators of the early werewolf movies caught sight of a polar in a partial shift. Opening my eyes I see the muted glow of the snow and now I have done it. Looking up I gasp and rake my claw over my palm fast fisting my hand to squeeze out the warm blood in the cold air. The drop leaves as the moon moves I hold my breath.

My heart dropped thinking I messed this all up when the drop hits. A sizzle sings through the air. Sparks start and right before the flame sprang to life I felt a jolt go through me almost like a hug. Warm love washes over me as my hand heals and I return to human form. At that moment I could only think of max. Grabbing the bags with the empty bottles I rush back to the cabin where I know max is waiting for me. I am the last true bear of the north. The last child of the cold. But my cubs will know the history and I know deep down max will honor me by helping to keep my family alive if only in tales passed down the line. My body and soul were born in the snow my heart belongs to a wolf and my loyalty will always be with the goddess. I know everything is for a reason. Being the last of my kind and the weakest of my clan I know the goddess had to have trusted my body mind and heart to the only soul worthy of caring for and protecting me even from myself. I was lost for so long. This wolf has found me and will continue to find me until I am who I am meant to be. The time of the polars is coming to a close but now we have wolves who will risk the cold to come help. The new guardians of the north are in the wolves now.

Getting to the cabin door a huge gust of wind shoves me through the door. Snow and cold almost noticeable flood into the cabin. The moon starts shining brighter the blue silver light bouncing off the snow in all directions. Max Ambrose and jasmine rush into the living room. Bells start ringing throughout well everywhere. Turning to watch as the ringing got louder. The light starts to bounce back off of a dome. Coming back down tot the ground. I hear the click of claws on the floor turning I see Kaleb and Freya stalking out of the bedroom looking at fresh as the morning snow.

A soft glow starts at the snow line as max wraps me in his arms we watch as a glow starts working its way up the dome.
