Chapter 22

Glancing around I notice no one is looking at Avery in fear. Freya just rubs against his leg. Did he just call me princess? Glaring “I am not a princess” I don’t get to finish my thought before he cuts in “yes yes your mother said the same thing.” he waves his hands. “come, come we don’t have time I need to get this off your wrist and start you with control. First I need to call your father he needs to know” roaring out letting all my frustration out. As soon as I let my frustration out I felt a band on my chest. Coughing and choking I drop to the ground. Freya rushes to me whimpering. “what was that?” looking around. Everyone else is gasping as well. Avery seems to be taking a larger hit.

Standing he's grabbing his chest, Freya is at my side pulling deep breaths in. “well I think I will leave that little gem on you a little while longer” Avery says as he gets up on his knees shaking his head. Sitting up pushing back so my back hits the door. “what was that?” I pant out. “a binder spell. Your little leash is the only thing keeping you and Freya upright. The stronger your magic the stronger the hold the binder has to try linking?” glaring at him he knows, way too much about wolves and magic and what is with his well all of him. He's mostly red with black designs all over. A pair of onyx black horns sit on the top of his head. His eyes shift between blue and orange. “max” I try but the link is gone. Looking at this annoying red monster “that's it Avery” “Ambrose child. I would have loved to play a little longer but I think we may be in real danger here. Those twins do not have the coloring of a snow shifter let alone the alpha line here. They are the first wolf family to venture this far north finding all these snow shifters brings them together. I know I help them build this pack oh whenever that was. Before your canisters locked me away.”

Ambrose? Like as in my father's “when Ambrose comes back” Ambrose? Looking at max Kaleb and jasmine in question. But they were all looking at me with the same look of what the hell man? “um wait how do I know you are who you say you are can you prove you are this Amish guy?” his eyes flare orange. So bright I felt the heat from them “you may be the daughter of a dear friend the blood of someone I hold dear to me but do not mistake my kindness for weakness child. I am older than you will ever be. I was here before you took your first breath I will be here long after you take your last. Let's not make today that day?” the weight of it falling over me hard swallowing, I feel something I had never felt before. Fear. I felt afraid for the first time in my life. And I do not like it. But I nodded I am not stupid I know when to fight and when to fold. And folding keeps me breathing. “I apologize master Ambrose. My father talked of you a lot but until this moment I thought well you were imaginary. I meant no disrespect.” bowing my head to him. My father told me that Ambrose as playful and childlike as he is is just as deadly. That is what gets everyone, in the end, he can charm the pants of a snake. Then fry the snake for supper.

With a wave of his hand, it was like nothing had happened. Trying to link max again I can't. “all magic in this cabin is null. Shall we go for a walk and see what the small village has to offer?” Ambrose sings as he goes to the door. “ umm?” he looks back at me “yes spit it out?” “Well, you can't go out looking like that and expect to go unnoticed?” “what do you mean no well ya he had brown hair and eyes a minute ago now looks like a surfer kid but I don’t see him sticking out much?” “awe you do have the sight princess just like your counter. I was amazed to see both chaos and not opposites like your coloring?” “Eris? Do you mean Eris?” with a nod he smiles “her familiar is a wonder not that yours is not just different. Both can kill with a bite. amazingly, I do have a theory about this though.” tapping his lower lip like he's thinking. I swear he talks in circles and riddles how does he even keep up with himself?

“awe yes that would be a good question wouldn't its princess?” growling I snap my eyes at him “stop calling me princess I am not a princess?” “are you not the daughter of Artemis Samuels formally Artemis winters royal princess of the wolves?” dropping my shoulders and nodding okay rock hard spot I get it but ugh I am not a princess I am an alpha. “your sister is the lighter version of you in many ways is she not?” cocking his head looking at me Caleb's barking full belly laughter fill the room “oh man no Eris is a how ass shit storm you run from shes sneaking and backhanded in her revenge. No here she comes straight at you and takes your head. Eris just wears heels whereas no one says fuck shoes. Oh okay ya, I get it, man, they are the same but completely different.” jasmine huffs as she finished dropping back and laying flat on her back. The longer we think about what he said the more I was confused “how would you know Eris so well in two days?” “I have known the young Luna longer than two days princess she was in my home for just over a month learning control something we will see to once back to your home.” he snaps his fingers and nothing. Again snapping his fingers. His eyes turning a deep burnt orange color as he snaps again and nothing. “child come here to lend me some magic? I would pull from your hell bitch but you two are not fully bonded yet.” he huffs out. He seems to be having a hard time breathing. Making my way over I nod to the max and then the door. He nods back as he gets up. Why the fuck do they not look as affected as myself or Ambrose?

“they don’t have the level of magic in their blood yourself and I have my dear. You and your sister are twice blessed, twice cursed. I promise to go over what I am learning once back at your astral home.” he barely whispers out. Grabbing his hand I feel a shock and zap. Then a pull from my core. I can feel my head moving down my arm rushing to Ambrose. When the heat hits my hand passing to him I can see him visibly relax.

“I must bond you to your familiar the second we are out of this room. You can not supply enough magic to share with me alone.” I can feel deep down what he says is true. The look in his eyes hit me hard for the first time since I have seen this man I see a plea in his eyes and not playfulness. With a nod we make a silent agreement to work together.

“well getting out might be an issue. The door is locked and reinforced.”
