Chapter 53
It's been several days but she brewed up a potion for getting to the truth but sadly nothing has gotten this necklace off. Her exact words “I don’t think I’m powerful enough to break that spell. But if it’s any conciliation it’s a spell to see the past so really nothing dangerous. These dreams and visions are a way for you to feel and see through the eyes of someone else. Tell me who are you seeing through?” “It’s not one person it’s been at least four or five people since my birthday.”
“Have you learned anything you didn’t already know?” “Well, ya because let’s be honest I don’t know the actual personal history of anyone but myself.” “ not what I meant. The spell is to show you truths. But I can’t find a signature on the magic. It’s like it’s made from magic itself. So whose shoes are you walking in?” “right now no clue. Each time I’ve had dreams of this current person no one’s said her name. I mean if I read the journal I get a name but without the journal, I just dream. I will say the dreams are short but less jarring and I haven’t actually overslept though the dreams seem shorter and harder to remember than when I read the journal before the vision or dreams.”
“so when do you want to go ask the prisoner where to find the three in the hidden room?” “do you think everything is ready and will work?” “I have gone over it several times with master Loki and we both feel the potion is ready. Just slip it in his meal tonight and it will be in full effect tomorrow.” “Well, then I think I will personally give him his meal tonight. So any plans for tonight?” “nope just gonna read some more of the spell books from the secret room. Some I have never heard of before and a few have been forbidden to use even by our elders. When do you think you will reverse the no magic law.” “next formal meeting after the tournament for the beta gamma and delta titles.” “why not now?” “The law was made with the blood of the ranked members so I need the ranked member's blood to undo it. For that, I need ranked and titled wolves in the pack again.”
Grabbing the potion I head to the kitchen. With luck tomorrow I will free some trapped wolves and start the tournament. “is the prisoner's meal ready?” “yes alpha. I was just about to call for a guard.” Annie smiles at me. Shaking my head as I grab the tray “ill do it tonight I want to talk to him.” She nods and goes back to cutting things I couldn’t even guess if I tried. Hope it’s good.
Making my way down to the dungeons whistling in my head. I have
been feeling off all day. Maybe I need out of the house for a walk or run maybe. Nodding at the wolves on my way down. Getting to the door I nod and the guards open The door. Just inside the room is a desk with a video feed from the cells. All views are from outside of the cell. If the cells were bigger I would worry about blind spots. There are cots against one wall. A grate with a small stream of water flowing to the drain. Between the two spots, there’s enough room to pace about two feet back and forth. Enough room for a full-grown man but too small to shift. The bars look to be solid silver. But they are iron with a liquid silver core and then played with pure silver. The floor looks like packed dirt is really packed sand over the same metal as the bars just in sheet form. Five of the six sides of the cell are those sheets. Any wolf or witch would be nothing more than a weak pathetic human.
Glancing at the screen I see Gregory just laying on the bed looking at the ceiling. He looks to not have a care in the world. “he said anything?” shaking their heads “not a word alpha it’s a little unsettling. He’s been here what a week and not one word spoken.” Nodding I follow the hall down to his cell.
Clearing my throat as I stand outside his cell. Glancing at the door he looks at me and nods. Sitting up he waits for his food. “I am alpha, Athena. Do you know why you are here Gregory?” he shrugs and nods. “are you hungry?” he shrugs looking down the hall I signal for the guard to come here. When she makes it to me I hand her the tray. “hold this for a moment “ bowing she takes the tray. He raises his brow just watching. Walking over to a small seating area I’m sure is where the guards spend their time. I can’t blame them.
Sitting on the chair in front of his cell I take the tray setting it on my lap. “so Gregory, tell me why did you run from the pack?” picking up a grape off the tray and popping it in my mouth. Chewing slowly as he glares at me. I start counting slowly to one hundred. Every time I reach it I pop another grape in my mouth. The longer he takes the more I eat. I slipped the potion into the hot mug of coffee on the tray.
“the pack was going to hell and I didn’t want to go down with it. I’d rather be a rogue marked to never join a pack again.” He sneers at me. Crossing his arms over his chest. He looks thin and pale. “how long have you been living in Dark Haven for?” tilting his head and staring at me like he’s trying to see something. “since I ran.” “who helped you?” “what do you mean?” setting the mug on the ground pushing it between the bars. Picking it up he hugs it to him like he’s trying to pull the heat into himself. This area of the castle seems to be warmer than the rest of the castle so why is he cold. “cold?” he shakes his head “don’t like small spaces.”
“Who helped you?”
“with what?”
“running and hiding?”
“no one. Hiding isn’t so hard when no one is looking for you.” He shrugs.
“so what were you doing the night I found you?”
“Walking?”
“before that?”
“……” I just stare at him waiting. He slowly sips the coffee. When he finishes his coffee and still hasn’t answered. I slide what’s left of his food to him. Smirking at him as he stares at the bow cold food. Without a word, I turn and leave.
making it to the guard “let me know if he starts talking. Why is it so warm down here I thought it was supposed to be cold in the dungeons?” “it was cold at first but slowly it’s risen I think maybe the cells keep the heat from the lights and other equipment in here kinda like an oven.” “ill order fans or something for you guys.” They smile and nod.
